Joint Statement: Wiseburn + Da Vinci Update

Dear Da Vinci Families,

We are reaching out today with a joint communication that comes in the wake of several productive discussions held by both superintendents and a representative group of board members from the Wiseburn and Da Vinci Boards of Trustees. We wish to share the following updates as part of our joint commitment to best serve our students and families:

  • Da Vinci retracts any and all assertions from its March 1, 2023, letter issued by its legal counsel that Da Vinci can move forward with the CTE Studio without WUSD approval. Da Vinci understands and acknowledges the district as the property/facility owner, and we are continuing a collaborative path forward for the CTE Studio. The CTE Studio is anticipated to serve as a significant advantage for Wiseburn K-8 students, Da Vinci high school students, and as a valuable resource for the broader community.

  • Similarly, Wiseburn has withdrawn the notice of termination of the Facilities Use Agreement (FUA) sent to Da Vinci on May 9, 2023. This means Da Vinci Design, Communications, and Science students and families can remain confident in the continued presence of our schools at 201 N. Douglas Street, as Wiseburn and Da Vinci collaborate to review and potentially enhance the FUA.

  • We have committed to improving our Wiseburn + Da Vinci communication process and we are jointly exploring the integration and expansion of programs at the Da Vinci Schools, the feasibility of a District-operated high school, and shared governance options.

We wish to express our gratitude to all community members who have actively engaged in the expression of their concerns and support over the past weeks. This feedback has been instrumental in shaping our collective direction.

We are confident that the agreements reached pave the way towards a closer collaboration in the future. Your continued support and engagement will undoubtedly foster this shared ambition.

In Solidarity,
Dr. Blake Silvers
