Hello JES families,
October is upon us and a reminder of the fall season. The mornings are cool, the winds are blowing and conferences are about to begin. Our teachers have been busy getting to know your child’s needs, areas of strength, and areas for improvement. We continue to focus on differentiating our instruction to meet the needs of every individual learner. Differentiated Instruction for each learner begins with assessment. We’ve recently completed our FastBridge Assessments as well as our BAS reading assessments. These assessments provide our teachers immediate student learning data that is used to make informed decisions on your child's academic growth.
Teachers are busy preparing for our parent/teacher conferences coming up the evenings of October 19thand 28th and the afternoon of Oct. 25th. As a parent, we encourage you to do the same. Before conferences, talk with your child to find out how school is going from their perspective. Ask them what their favorite subjects, activities or books are. Ask them if there is anything they would like you to discuss with the teacher. It is often difficult to hear about areas of concern your child may be having in school academically or socially; however, working with the teacher will help your child succeed in these areas. After the conference, celebrate with your child letting them know what they are doing well and pass along their successes. Share with your child the areas you and the teacher will be working on to help them improve. We truly look forward to working as partners with you to ensure your child reaches their greatest potential! There is still time to sign up for parent/teacher conferences. Sign-up here: MY CONFERENCE TIME
Please let me know if I can be of any assistance.
Here to make each day at JES the best!!

Picture Retakes - October 27th!
Do you have a plan to vote on or before Nov. 2?
There is one question on the 2021 Referendum Ballot to address the district's critical need for operating revenue. The 10-year Operating Levy would provide an increase in operating revenue of $550 per pupil, which equates to approximately $5.2 million of additional revenue in the first year. The estimated tax impact on the average homeowner would be about $20/month, based on an average home value of $375,000. Learn more about the district’s need for this funding and what’s at stake if the Nov. 2 referendum is not approved at www.ECCSvote.org.
Vote early in person at the Carver County Government Center (600 E. 4th Street, Chaska):
- Monday-Friday, through Oct. 29: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Saturday, Oct. 30: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Monday, Nov. 1: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Vote on election day – Nov. 2: Polls will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 2. There are four polling locations for this special election – Carver City Hall, Chanhassen Recreation Center, Chaska Community Center, and Victoria Recreation Center. Polling locations for this election may be different than where you typically vote. Find your polling location at www.mnvotes.org
From the Health Office
Some friendly Health Office reminders:
Please remember to check your child's symptoms each morning, keep them home if they are not feeling well, and call the Health Office. If they come to the Health Office not feeling well, I will assess them and if needed they will need to go home.
- Please send your student(s) to school with a mask every day as we have limited amount of extras.

Mindful parenting group sessions you can sign up to attend virtually--learn to respond and not just react: Mindful Parenting Classes
Each grade level/classroom sets aside some time to celebrate their community of learners each season. Depending on the age of the learners, teachers and students celebrate in different ways. Your child's teacher will communicate when these festivals are during the school year.

Wellness: Can my child bring birthday treats to school for birthday/celebrations?
All food offered to students during school hours needs to meet the nutrition guidelines from the USDA Smart Snacks. We are asking that families do not bring any food or birthday trinkets to be shared with others into school. Thank you for your support in keeping our kids healthy and safe at school!
The mask requirement for students ages 2-12 will be in place through October 31st, at which point families will be updated on whether an extension is necessary. Please bookmark Safe Learning Plan for the latest information.
