This is our first edition of The Tiger's Roar! since the Thanksgiving break. I hope you enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends.
As I reviewed this issue, one word certainly popped to mind - GRATITUDE. Even if you only quickly scroll through this edition, you will see what I see in my role and why I say this. The way that the students, teachers, staff, and members of our Jones community stepped forward to help others at Thanksgiving and for our 2017 Teach-In event warms my heart. I cannot thank everyone enough for their kindness, contributions, and their time over recent weeks. I have written in the past how proud I was to have been given the position of JHS Principal last summer; I think this edition helps to explain why I feel this way. We are so blessed to have such fine young people and adults who clearly care deeply for others in the community.
As a reminder, our last day of school for the 2017 calendar year is Thursday, December 21. The second semester/third quarter begins on Monday, January 8, 2018 when we return to school.
I hope you enjoy this issue and, as always, thank you for your continued support.
Allison Kirby
Principal

Our guest teachers enjoyed a breakfast meet & greet and heard a few selections from our talented Concert Chorus before being escorted to classrooms by our
Student Government Association, National Honor Society, and
BETA Club student leaders. We'd like to thank our Partner in Education,
The Young Law Firm of Florida, for providing breakfast.

Senior football players
Aaron Thompson, Joshua Green, Sevyn Banks, Michael Thomas-Loving and
Ronald Teague volunteered their time to participate in Teach-In at Chain of Lakes Middle School. As proud COLMS graduates, these young men spoke to a group of 8th graders about their high school experience and how to overcome adversity. They created a Kahoot interactive quiz to keep the students engaged. Way to go!

JHS Tigers Give Back - National Honor Society & BETA Club
Top: Widlyne Israel and Ashanti Grace love volunteering with Florida Citrus Sports!
The Jones High School National Honor Society partnered with the JHS BETA Club to continue their legacy of serving their community when needed. Florida Citrus Sports needed volunteers to assist with the Florida Blue Battle of the Bands and they called Jones High to help. The students began serving directly after school on Friday, escorting the bands that had traveled from as far as Fayetteville, NC from their buses into Amway Arena to await their performance. Their service didn't stop there; they passed out waters, held equipment and assisted the visiting bands with security and directions throughout the event.
JHS BETA Club Sponsor
Alicia Kennon stated, "It is with pride that the organization continues to "Lead by Serving Others" especially at one of the largest annual events in the Orlando area. JHS National Honor Society sponsor
Sonya Poteat added, "It is truly amazing that after a long day of IB (International Baccalaureate) and AP (Advanced Placement) classes that students in both BETA and National Honor Society still find the time and dedication to give back to their community." Both organizations recognize that it is under the leadership of
Principal Allison Kirby that the importance of transforming students into future leaders through service, leadership and character development, is the Jones way.
