Detroit, MI: Cadillac Motor Car Division, General Motors Corporation, 1934. 10 pp (unpaginated).] With 4 color plates, numerous text illustrations, photo illustrations. First edition of this very scarce dealer's showroom brochure for the 1935 La Salle Cadillacs. Before the Great Depression, La Salle had been cranking out high sales, and had a great following, but by the depths of the great depression, the sales had shrunk to below 3500 cars a year, but then Harley Earl's designs came along to salvage the line. The 1935 La Salle sat on the brand new chassis introduced in 1934, and the independent front suspension, as well as featuring a new bumper, reshaped V-type windshield, and cowl with shielded portholes, and a longer wheelbase. The La Salle's sales rose to 8653 cars in 1935. No copies located in Worldcat. Vg cond.  $295.00


 2. (Cadillac) CADILLAC SIXTY SPECIAL AND SIXTY-ONE. THE NEWEST CARS IN THE WORLD.CADILLAC]. Detroit, MI: Cadillac, General Motors Corp., Feb. 1, 1939. 12 pp (unpaginated)]. Pict. wraps, sepia-tinted illustrations throughout, several with blue-colored borders. First edition, thus, of this scarce dealer's brochure for the 1939 Cadillac model year on the eve of World War II. The Sixty- Special, was released with the new Series 61featuring a 126 in. wheelbase, slight raked, prow shaped vertical radiator flanked by grilles in the "Catwalk" area between the front fenders and the main nose section. The 1939 Cadillacs featured redesigned dashboard, newly optional vacuum operated radio antenna, rubber rear fender protectors, and a "Controlled-Action-Ride." The Sixty-Special featured a sunroof sedan with sliding section above the front seat, and all sported the V-8. Vg cond. No copies located in Worldcat.  $175.00

Pict. wraps, 18 pp (unpaginated).] Numerous color plates, 1 supplement color plate laid-in for the new two-tone DeLuxe models. Double-page color plate on verso of folding back cover, copy stapled as issued. First edition of this scarce dealer's showroom brochure for the 1941 Chevrolet passenger cars. These included the Special DeLuxe Sport Sedan, Business Coupe, Cabriolet, Five-passenger Coupe, Town Sedan, and Station Wagon Woody. The 1941 Chevrolet Special DeLuxe and Master DeLuxe lineup were a sensation from the day they were introduced, reflecting Harley Earl's Art and Color section entirely redesigning the Chevrolet to resemble the costlier General Motors Buick lineup. The Wheelbase was stretched to 116 inches, interior space was much larger with more hip room, the running boards were concealed, and the headlamps were blended into the fenders. In addition, the engine was heavily redesigned with a higher ratio in the compression ratio raising horsepower from 85 to 90, new pistons were fitted, valves, rocker arms, and water pump were all reworked. The engine was called the Victory Six in homage to the war raging in Europe. No copies located in Worldcat. Vg cond.  $225.00

The models displayed here included the full line-up of the Chrysler Imperial, and the Chrysler Royal series which offered the fashionable styling of the wildly popular New Yorker, without the extra expense. Chrysler unveiled Super finish, a process in which all major chassis components subject to wear were finished to a mirror-like surface, push button inside door locks, rotary type door locks, and a lower sleeker stance, as evidenced by the C14, C15, C17, and C18 models. The Airstream models were introduced in 1935, and featured slippery curves, and all sedans were fastbacks. 13. (Ford) GET THE FACTS AND YOU'LL GET A 1941 FORD. THE MOST REMARKABLE CAR OF THE AGE; 1941 FORD TRUCKS: THE ECONOMY TRUCKS SAVE ON EVERY JOB. Dearborn, MI: Ford Motor Co., October, 1940. Pict. wraps. 102, [4] pp. Over 150 color and black & white photo illustrations, several large double-page folding color plates of car models. First edition of this exceedingly scarce original dealership showroom catalogue for the 1941 Ford passenger models and trucks which were introduced in October, 1940. These included the Special, De Luxe and Super De Luxe sedans, convertible, cabriolet, Woody Station Wagon, and Coupes, and others. These cars came equipped with the new 226 cubic inch L-head straight-6, and rated at 90 horsepower. The 221 cubic inch V8 remained the standard for the De Luxe and Super De Luxe models . Ford thoroughly updated their models for the 1941 model year,  with wide bodies that nearly covered the running boards. The front and rear fenders came in several pieces instead of just one, and were now more integrated into the body, and pushed the headlights up out over the front wheels. Of special interest, is the 1941 truck and heavy truck models on the eve of World War II. including the 1 ton stake truck, commercial panel trucks and vans, cab-over heavy truck, the Heavy Duty Stake, and others which were to see widespread use and demand during the War both at the front, and on the home front. 14. (Ford)  THE NEW FORD DeLUX BODY TYPES.  Detroit, MI: Ford Motor Co., 1929. Pict. wraps. 12 pp (unpaginated), printed & illustrated throughout in silver metallic ink, sepia & black, silver metallic borders.  First edition of this exceedingly scarce original dealership showroom brochure for the 1930 Ford Model A, Deluxe lineup just two years after the introduction of the first major auto redesign by the Ford Motor Company since the introduction of the Model T nearly 20 years before. The catalogue illustrates and provides technical details for the different body styles, including the Deluxe Coupe, Town Sedan, Deluxe Phaeton, Deluxe Sedan, Convertible Cabriolet, an Deluxe roadster. The engine was a water-cooled L-Head inline 4-cylinder, with about 40 horsepower. The 1930 Deluxe Fords featured Mohair, or Leather upholstery, curtains in the sedans, steel spoke wheels, cow lights, ad many other accessories as standard equipment. No copies located in Worldcat. 17. (Ford)  FORD V-8 Dearborn, MI: Ford Motor Co., June, 1936. 16 pp. (unpaginated) Pict. wraps. Color-illustrated throughout, self-printed color-illustrated softcovers. First edition of this beautifully illustrated dealer's brochure for the 1936 Ford models, which included the De Luxe Tudor Sedan, Fordor Sedan, De Luxe Coupe, Convertible Cabriolet, Tudor Touring Sedan, De Luxe Phaeton, and the De Luxe Roadster. The 1936 model 68 received a striking facelift, including a graceful V-shaped grille with vertical bars, and wire spokes replaced by artillery type wheels, with 12 inch painted hubcaps and chrome centers. The 1936 also featured restyled front end and rear end fenders, and the De Luxe body styles featured bright chrome around the grille, headlamps, and windshield. Vg cond.  $195.00



INDIANA MOTORCYCLE RACING - HARLEY DAVIDSON - PHOTO ALBUM

18. [Indiana Motorcycle Racing - Harley Davidson). Stewer, Milford, Ewer, John Ragon, Howard Hale, Martinek, Charles Edward, Butler, John W., etc. This unique photo album records the flat track races, travels, and antics of a Lake County, Indiana Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Club on the eve of World War II, including races in Illinois, Texas, and Daytona, Florida. These photos document the club members motorcycle racing and riding Harley-Davidson EL "Knucklehead" bikes, 45 Twin Harley Davidson, along with such historic Harley-Davidson figures as Harry Molenaar who created the Illiana Motor Speedway track, and Barcus J. Knowles, owner of Knowles Cycle Co. Harley-Davidson in Waco, TX, along with local Texas Eagle Motorcycle Club members and Clubhouse. Hammond, Lake County, IN: Stewer, Ewer, Ragon, Martinek, Nichols, Butler, Perry, Harrington, Howard, et al. All were Motorcycle Club Members between 1938 and 1940. 52 p, unpaginated, ruled ledger paper, w/ alphabet thumb tabs at fore-edges in red & gilt leather,with 73 original black & white photographs inserted into carefully cut slots, some signed on images, and nearly all with extensive ink manuscript annotations (w/o 1 photo). Contemporary three-quarter burgundy-colored calf over kahki-colored corduroy covers, rounded corners, nickel plated spine hardware.

This outstanding photo album was assembled by a Hammond, Indiana motorcycle club on the eve of World War II, in memory of their fellow club member and motorcycle enthusiast Robert W. Wilson (1917-1940), who was killed in a motorcycle accident on his 23rd birthday, March 13, 1940. The album opens with a signed 5 x 7 in. silver gelatin photo of John Ewer (1917-1992), wearing his Harley-Davidson sweater, racing boots, setting on his 45 Twin Harley, No. 30, in which he placed 3rd in the Monee, IL State Championship Relay Races in 1938. In one of the subsequent photos, there is an excellent shot of Harry Molenaar (1912-1999), legendary Harley-Davidson motorcycle racer, and dealer who opened his dealership at the age of 19 in 1931, and is well remembered as the founder of the half-mile oval dirt track, the Illiana Motor Speedway southeast of Chicago. The dealership would stay open for over 60 years, and he mentored many different mid-western motorcycle clubs. These are followed by more images of Ewer, as well as Milford "Millie" Stewer (1917-1993), racer and truck driver, racing knee down around the dirt tracks. The balance of the album is devoted to a motorcycle racing trip by the club down to Waco, TX where they raced with the Waco Eagles Motorcycle Club of Waco, TX, stayed at the King Ranch, visited the Alamo, rode to Reynosa, Mexico, and took potshots at Chuck's Shell gas station sign. They also traveled to Silver Spring, FL, entered motorcycle races on Daytona Beach, FL, with stops recorded in Arkansas and Texas. These photos show Club members Howard Ragon (1918-1973), Charles Martinek (1913-1993), John W. Butler (1917-1992), and others riding their modified Harley-Davidson EL "Knuckleheads," fitted with metal trunk/saddle bag combos, and stickers of all the states visited attached to the side; Joe Jaskovitch riding his Knucklehead fitted with leather saddle bags, wearing leather jacket, cap with Club badges, and blue jeans; one of the Hammond Motorcycle club member's Harley fitted with a scarce "Package Trunk" sidecar; a Waco, TX Eagle Club member's Harley fitted with sidecar; as well as two excellent images of the famed Waco, TX Harley dealership, Knowles Cycle Co., owned by Barcus J. Knowles (1891-1969), with signage, Harley motorcycles, and the owner himself in the door.        LOCOMOBILE MOTORCARS FACTORY ALBUM - WORLD WAR I - 

19. (Locomobile Photo Album - World War I) An extraordinary factory promotional photo album for Locomobile Motorcars touting the war record of the company's top-of-the-line M-48 Overseas models sold to the American Expeditionary Forces, which were used alongside standard M-48 limousines for General Pershing, foreign dignitaries, and even a specially armored version with Presidential seal on front radiator for President Wilson during the Peace Talks at Versailles. Following World War I, the Model 48 costing $ 10,000 would continue to be built and sold until 1929, first by Locomobile, and then by Durant Motors after acquiring the Company in 1922. Bridgeport, CT: Locomobile Company of America; Lewis Corbit, Camera Craft, U.S. Signal Corps. (Photographers), 1919. 48 pp (unpaginated), thick dark gray card stock, mounted on black linen hinges, w/ 24 silver gelatin photographs tipped-in, sized between 6 x 10.5 in. up to 7.5 x 9.5 in., 21 with numbered typed captions mounted on facing leaves, some images w/ text in the negative and lower fore-edge, a number of them with photographer's signature. Contemporary black simulated calf post-binder, rounded corners, brass posts painted black at gutter margin. Fom the collection of James Maclin McKinney (1887-1960), former auto salesman for Packard Motor Car Co., Locomobile in 1920, Cadillac, and then Chrysler Motor Cars, who served as a Sergeant in Company C, 110th Support Train, 35th Infantry Division which was composed from Kansas and Missouri National Guard in 1917, deployed to France in 1918, and discharged at the end of 1919. Included with the album are 12 black & white photographs, 2 Real Photo Postcards documenting Sgt. McKinney's driving of staff cars in France during World War I, as well as the Riker's heavy trucks built by Locomobile, alongside his 1923, together with two TLS dated 1937 addressed to McKinney, Chrysler Co., Kansas City, MO, and his wife Madeline McKinney in 1960.  

This unique factory promotional sales album touting the Locomobile models used in World War I by General Pershing, his general staff, Secretary of War Baker, and President Wilson during the peace talks at Versailles following the Armistice. Several of the Locomobile Overseas Model 48's were specially designed with a tapered V-shaped windshield, narrower body, steel disc wheels as per Pershing's orders, in lieu of the standard wood spoke version, powered by a T-head 6-cylinder engine producing 48.6 horsepower, and fitted on a 142 inch wheelbase. In addition, Locomobile provided their standard Model 48 limousines for General Pershing and his General Staff officers 2-stars and above, and were fitted with wood spoke wheels, and chains fitted for driving on ice and snow as depicted in one of the photos in this album. The Model 48 weighted 3 tons, was built of magnesium bronze, aluminum and steel, and was owned by a who's who of the wealthy, including Melon, Gould, Vanderbilt, Wanamaker, William Wrigley, Charlie Chaplin, Tom Mix, and Cecil B. DeMille. There are a number of photos showing the side and front views of President Wilson's specially designed and armored Locomobile Limousine which was shipped to Europe following the war for the Peace Conference negotiations, and this album includes a number of additional photos showing the President and Pershing's General Staff arriving at the AEF Headquarters in Chaumont, France, driving through the streets to honor AEF servicemen during Christmas services, as well as views of President Wilson entering and exiting the Locomobile. Founded originally as a manufacturer of steam-powered automobiles designed by the Stanley Brothers, Locomobile was acquired by Amzi Barber, "the Asphalt King of America," who installed Samuel Davis, Jr. his son-in-law as treasurer and later president who ably guided the company's rapid rise during the early 20th century. Davis hired Andrew Riker in 1901 to design the first gasoline Locomobile, and he would remain as chief engineer until 1920, designing the finest quality automobiles in America. In keeping with their emphasis on quality, Locomobile maintained their own coach works design department headed by designer J. Frank De Causse, whose simple and elegant designs have stood the test of time. In fact, General Pershing's Locomobile Model 48-2 Sportif Touring Car which he acquired after the war recently sold in 2013 at auction for nearly $ 90,000. After William Durant was ousted from the board of General Motors in 1922, he formed the Durant Motor Co., and acquired the Locomobile plant and sales force. The Model 48 would continue to be produced in modified formats until 1929 when the 8-cylinder Locombile was introduced, but it could not save the Company, and Durant Motors failed during the Great Depression in 1933. At the depths of the depression, the LaFayette autos were introduced as a stylish less expensive line, while Nash finished it's redesign for their models which would later be introduced as the Aeroform design. The LaFayette line-up featured a 5-passenger Touring Sedan, 2- and 4-passenger Coupes, a beautiful 5-passenger 4-door sedan fitted with suicide doors, and 5-passenger 2-door sedan as well. The 1934 LaFayette models only attracted 5000 first-year buyers, but this would double in 1935, and then take-off afterwards. Vg cond.  $195.00

First edition of this well-illustrated dealer catalogue promoting the amazing 1933 PD model Plymouth's, which featured the same body and engine of the lower priced Plymouth's, but used the larger Dodge frame to extend the wheel base. New front fenders, hood, and radiator shell were used to finish off the design, and this was the last year Plymouth featured an external radiator cap. The DeLuxe grill was more vertical, and plated. Printed in blue-tinted and silver metallic ink text & illustrations, diagrams throughout. Colour-illustrated self-printed wrappers, cover art of Plymouth Special DeLuxe 4-door sedan in red on an airfield, 2-door DeLuxe Club Coupe on back cover w/ fighter plane behind. First edition of this well-illustrated dealer catalogue promoting the very scarce 1942 Plymouths, which included the P14S for the less expensive models, and the P14C for the top of the line. Plymouth had begun early production of the 1942 models, because it was evident at the end of 1941 that automobile production would be taking a back seat to military orders. The 1942 models received a more massive look, running boards were concealed by the lower part of the door, grille bars were reduced to just 5 heavy bars, and a more massive bumper protected the front license plate. Only 152,427 were produced before the assembly line was shut down for war production January 31, 1942. Of particular interest is the beautiful illustration for the 1942 DeLuxe Woodie Station Wagon.
