Visionary singer-songwriter-guitarist José González is celebrating today’s arrival of his eagerly awaited fourth solo album. LOCAL VALLEY is available now via Mute on CD, standard black vinyl, limited edition colored vinyl, and at all digital platforms. Today’s release of LOCAL VALLEY is heralded by the premiere of “Line of Fire,” joined by an official lyric video streaming now at YouTube. “Line Of Fire” continues González’s long tradition of reinterpreting classic songs, though on this occasion he has chosen one written for Junip, the band he formed with friends in 1998 and continues to maintain with co-founder Tobias Winterkorn. A highlight of Junip’s self-titled second album, the original version of “Line of Fire” has proven equally as popular as other songs Gonzalez has famously covered, featured on soundtracks including Breaking Bad and The Blacklist, and now with more than 60M worldwide streams to date.
“Since my second album,” González says, “I’ve usually gone to my own songs for reference, similar to how I sense Beastie Boys did on CHECK YOUR HEAD and their follow-up, ILL COMMUNICATION. LOCAL VALLEY is similar to my other solo albums in sound and spirit, a natural continuation of the styles I’ve been adding through the years both solo and with Junip. It’s more outward-looking than my earlier works but no less personal. On the contrary, I feel more comfortable than ever saying that this album reflects me and my thoughts right now.”

González will mark the arrival of LOCAL VALLEY with an eagerly awaited U.S. co-headline tour alongside 2x GRAMMY® Award-nominated singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright. The “Unfollow The Rules In The Local Valley Tour” begins September 20 at Kansas City, MO’s Uptown Theater and then travels through an October 2 performance at Glenside, PA’s historic Keswick Theatre. González debuted his new music with a special live performance of “El Invento” as part of the 2020 Nobel Prize Award Ceremonies. He released the studio version of the song in February 2021 and then, in April, performed as part of National Geographic’s start-studded Earth Day Celebration.
