Tyler Walters was fully initiated into the Catholic Faith at the Easter Vigil last Saturday. Tyler was baptized as a baby and now as an adult has decided to join the Catholic Faith. Four young adults, Sue, Jon, Wes and Creighton were baptized at the Easter Vigil and received the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. Be sure to look for them at Mass to congratulate them and make them feel welcome!
Thanks to Jon and Wes for sharing some thoughts with us about their experience.
Jon Ellis The RCIA journey for me at St. Josaphat will always be one of great, positive memories. I initially had my doubts, but now, having been baptized and confirmed, can honestly say God led me to the right Church to begin the next chapter of my life. The journey to becoming a part of the Catholic faith served as both an educational experience and an opportunity to reconnect with my spiritual identity.
Words cannot explain how excited I am to now be a part of the Catholic Church. This is a day that my girlfriend, Emily, and I have looked forward to for quite some time.
Wes Bordeaux As someone who had a preconceived opinion of Roman Catholicism as a rigid religion emphasizing ritual over spirituality, the RCIA process proved me a fool. The RCIA sessions did a great job of covering the sacraments and history of the Church, while also giving a great introduction on how to practice your faith in your daily life. The discussions on spirituality and prayer were great, along with Father Wojciech's ability to explain the deeper spiritual meaning behind all the rituals.
The Easter Vigil was beautiful and so meaningful. For me, being baptized in the same church in which I was married, with my family by my side, brought emotion I have never before felt in my life. My mother-in-law said she felt the Holy Spirit stronger at the baptismal font than she had ever felt in her life.
