Thank you to the hundreds of students, volunteers, event attendees, auction participants, donors, sponsors, staff, and other supporters who joined 2026's Reading Between the Wines Celebration! Together, we raised more than $40,000 to support adult literacy education.

Congratulations to (L-R) Ruth, Mariama, Moon, and Sedenia, our first Altrusa scholarship recipients of 2026! Literacy Network is honored to partner with Altrusa International of Madison each year to support students' continued education with scholarship awards. This year, 10 students were awarded funds, and the students above were the first to pick up their scholarship checks earlier this month. They will study cosmetology, nursing (both Mariama and Moon!), and human services, respectively.

Best of luck , Altrusa Scholars, as you continue your educational journeys. We can't wait to see what you accomplish next!

Level 4 Group ESL student José recently gave a presentation entirely in English on Ancient Andean Water Engineering at the Wisconsin Energy Institute!

José earned a master's degree in hydraulic engineering in his native Peru. He worked as a professor of civil engineering and was the president of the Peruvian Association of Hydraulic Engineering, among other roles. He shares, "I like my activities because they involve myself with nature and the solution of technical aspects related to water use, not only for mining but also for agriculture and domestic requirements."


José says his group class helped him prepare for the presentation: "English classes by Literacy Network...were fundamental in introducing me to the English language and its variations...I know that the attendees were enthusiastic about learning from Inca and Pre Inca culture."

Join our team! Literacy Network is hiring a full-time Essential Literacy Program Manager and a limited term Spanish GED/HSED Instructor.

• The Essential Literacy Program Manager oversees our Essential Literacy tutoring program, helping adults improve their reading, writing, and/or computer skills to achieve their goals.
• The Spanish GED/HSED Instructor works with students working toward their high school completion in Spanish.
