An article appeared in the Jerusalem Post on October 13, 2025. In this article, bread loaves from the seventh or eighth
centuries AD were discovered due to carbonization. Carbonization is a process in which fire preserves the article in question. Here it is, bread with a stamped image of Christ as a Sower scattering grain and four other loaves with the image of the Maltese cross.
In the town of Topraktepe, a mound in southern Turkey, formerly a part of Byzantium, the discovery was made.
This discovery emphasizes the use of communion bread in daily living for the cultivation of spiritual practice and remembrance.
Devotion is beyond praises and prayers. Devotion includes the act of daily living and connecting daily life to Divine remembrance.
How are we filling our days with daily acts of piety- doing a good turn, random acts of kindness, all in remembering the great new gift of Jesus to those practicing and those receiving in this new year?
Blessings,
Pastor Jim
