CMA and PHC Launch Wildfire Relief Campaign to Support Impacted Physicians

CMS publishes 2019 Medicare payment rule; delays E/M proposal
On Nov. 1, 2018, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released the final 2019 Physician Fee Schedule, with many positive improvements over the proposed rule.

CMS has postponed for at least two years   its proposal to collapse  evaluation and management (E/M) code and payment levels. The California Medical Association (CMA) and the American Medical Association (AMA) advocated against this proposal, as it would have substantially cut payments, with potential unintended consequences for physicians in specialties that treat the sickest patients, as well as those who provide comprehensive primary care – ultimately jeopardizing patients’ access to care. CMA publishes Prop 56 payment monitoring worksheet
The California Health Care, Research and Prevention Tobacco Tax Act of 2016 (Prop. 56) created new revenues dedicated to the Medi-Cal program. Physicians receive supplemental payments in both fee-for-service and Medi-Cal managed care when providing Medi-Cal services under certain CPT codes. A total of $325 million was allocated for physician payments in the budget for 2017-18, with $488 million proposed for 2018-19. More...
