Junior Wind Ensemble Recording Assignments
First Recording Due
Saturday, February 27th, 2021
Hello JWE Players,

Below are the details for your homework projects!

Please note, this is not about perfect recordings at THIS point, we're just testing everything out and making sure we're pretty much all on the same page.

Another note to saxes and clarinets: Jason Forth, Jared's dad, has volunteered to record your parts on their own for you to play along with. Those recordings are coming soon, and will probably be more helpful than the recordings listed below.

Don't forget that this Sunday's rehearsal will be all online with NO in-person meeting. The Zoom link is at the bottom of this email.

Please email info@pyco.org if you have any questions.

Regards,
Tara Yaney
Junior Wind Ensemble Director
What: Submit recordings of your Junior Wind Ensemble music parts.
How: Here's the link to submit your recordings. Video or audio-only is fine. You may use the Dolby On app or whatever you have. https://driveuploader.com/upload/J7YPC1Rd50/
When: Please submit the first recordings by Saturday, February 27th. You are welcome to submit anything early and ask questions if you have them. Do them sooner than later, because more are coming. Below is the tentative schedule for what's coming up.
Schedule and Details:
  • For 2/27 - Record the main part you are playing on Imperial March.
  • Play with a metronome or a recording. (I don't need to hear what you are playing along with; you can listen through headphones.)
  • A recording of the piece is on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/DK2OAkLPdGU. When you play along with it, you can reduce the tempo if you want (under the little settings wheel, look for playback speed).
  • Note: Play the whole thing; it's short. If there are little passages that are crazy difficult (cough...clarinets), skip them and you can record them extra slowly at the end if you want.
  • Submit by February 27th here: https://driveuploader.com/upload/J7YPC1Rd50/

  • For 3/6 - Record the two solo parts for Remember Me and Colonel Bogey's March.
  • Play them all the way through. For Colonel Bogey, repeats are optional.
  • This is an opportunity to show your own personal touches, especially on Remember Me. Choose your personal preferences for which parts you think sound best on your instrument and for you. It's ok to change notes to what sounds right to you, rhythms, and ornaments. Pick your favorite tempo. The final tempo we use will be a democratic decision.
  • Note to alto saxes: When I say "solo" for Colonel Bogey, I mean the alto sax 1 part, measures 5 to the 2nd ending "2nd time only" and 56-end.
  • Link for a Colonel Bogey recording: https://youtu.be/3DtzG7qkhVA. Feel free to go faster.
  • Link for a Remember Me recording: https://youtu.be/7xTrb1dFyf4
  • Submit by March 6th here: https://driveuploader.com/upload/J7YPC1Rd50/

  • For 3/13 - Record the Colonel Bogey "not-solo" part - your regular part that says your instrument on it - all the way through.
  • Note to alto saxes: this means the alto sax 2 parts
  • Special note, especially for Natalie, flute players, anyone who can whistle really well, and anyone else who hears something for their instrument in this Boston Pops version. Anything that we should add to our performance? Natalie, that intro! Flutes, those trills! Low brass - this is completely new and fun! https://youtu.be/Mx96NLBAahk
  • Submit by March 13th here: https://driveuploader.com/upload/J7YPC1Rd50/

  • For 3/20 - Record your "second" parts, for those of you who have them.
  • Some of these will be very short, some are full parts, some are yet to be determined.
  • Submit by March 20th here: https://driveuploader.com/upload/J7YPC1Rd50/
Instructions for Easy Recording & Uploading
  • Record your parts preferably on a smartphone or tablet.*

  • Upload the recording. No need to rename your file.

  • We recommend that you allow plenty of time to record yourself and upload the videos. If you run into any problems before the deadlines, our staff will be happy to assist you in uploading your videos.
*We prefer smartphones because they compress the file which makes the upload process faster and more reliable. HD video or recording on special recording equipment is unnecessary and is not critical for your audio quality. It will only clog our servers, make your upload time longer, and possibly cause your upload to not complete.
Please email info@pyco.org with any upload questions or problems.
