Rainbow Beret Cafe
Grade 1 students become Beat Poets
|
Grade 1 students from
Our Lady of Wisdom
"
noodled it out "
as they explored their big question, "Who Am I?" Students transformed the room into a spoken word cafe using lighting and audio to set the scene. Next, students were given two strategies to create their poems.
The first strategy was to use a simple prompt and create a poem about yourself (or nature, superheroes, or sports) and the second strategy was 6 Room Poetry that can be found
here.
Want to try it? Here is strategy one!
Step 1:
Create your title
Example: This is me! (or This is a wolf!)
Step 2:
Create five to six simple prompts
Example: Your name or nickname, eye
colour, description of your hair, a word
that describes you, your favourite food
(with an action or sound), hair description
Step 3:
End your poem with your title
Voila! Instant poem!

Puppet Palooza at Jube School
|
What a week! Grade 4 students from
St. Boniface Catholic Elementary became designers, puppet builders, puppeteers and storytellers.
Students worked alongside
Jube School Facilitator and local artist,
Brendan James Boyd, using his puppet pattern to create these fun, imaginative and ever so playful puppets. Students designed, shaped and decorated their puppets, then brought them to life by finding their breath and voice.
Once back at school, students hid their puppets from their peers and families until the big reveal at the Christmas concert! They worked in groups create a surprise puppet show to share.
A lot of time and talent went into creating these masterpieces. The students' work was a big hit with the audience!
Connection, joy and imagination brought these students together through the creative process as they discovered a few more ties to their year long exploration of how "Works of Art Can Tell A Story."

NEW! Jube Tech: Like a Girl
Empowering. Mentoring. Creating Pathways.
|
This March, the Jubilee is proud to pilot our
Jube Tech: Like A Girl
program for students in grades 9 - 12. Students will work alongside industry experts from the Jubilee, IATSE local 212 and the community as they learn about lighting, audio and stagecraft. In June, the students will run a show while being shadowed by their mentors.
In the fall of 2020, a year long
Tech Like A Girl
Program will be launched. Students will have the opportunity to explore projection creation, stage management, lighting, audio and stagecraft while earning a Level 1 certificate in these departments.
