Hello Holden,
As we welcome our last cohort of the summer this week, we celebrate everyone who journeyed to the wilderness to practice community and explore Jubilee release, renewal and return.
With familiar seasonal changes in the Railroad Creek Valley as the backdrop, we are turning again in a new direction this fall. The Village adapts to the reality of our staff size with intention for time for staff renewal by offering registration for visits on select weekends and holidays this early winter.
Many thanks for all of the facilitators who enlivened our summer programming and challenged us through the sharing of music, artistic gifts, and insights from a variety of fields.
Holden, in the Village and beyond, continues visioning and working together for abundant life and Jubilee, for the land and for all people.
Faithfully,
Stacy Kitahata, Mark Bach, and Kathie Bach
P.S. As you check out the links in this newsletter, you'll notice that the Holden Village website has a new look. Thanks for your patience as we are in an interim stage in the process of building a new website!

August at Holden Village began with a special week of programming for Abriendo Caminos, which means “Opening Pathways” in Spanish. A longstanding Holden tradition for many years prior to remediation, Abriendo Caminos returned to the Village for the first time in 12 years with fresh energy and reimagined elements.
During the week-long celebration of Latinx/Latine culture, Villagers enjoyed nature hikes, piñata decorating, the Copa Holden soccer tournament, bilingual worship, making tamales and other traditional foods, a talent show, fiesta, and more. Holden is deeply grateful for all of the organizers and volunteers who made this week possible.

Save the Date - Jubilee Auction | | |
|
Celebrate Holden Village's 60th anniversary and support Holden for the future!
As Holden continues to navigate the pandemic challenges, short staffing has required us to cap registration at lower numbers than anticipated.
The third annual online Jubilee Auction on October 5th-9th will help offset the loss of guest revenue from the summer and fall and make it possible to continue to transform the future of Holden Village for another 60 years and beyond!
| |
We are looking for donations of items and experiences for the auction.
Do you have a vacation home or cabin you'd like to share with the Holden community? Are you an artist or maker with something to donate? Do you have Tickets to sporting events, performances, theaters, concerts that you'd like to give?
If you are interested in donating an item or experience, please contact: laura.development@holdenvillage.org or 509-903-8756.

Grace's Story
"Holden Village is such a unique place where you get to know people so fast. The whole experience is enriched by the people you interact with. One of the best aspects is being held by the community. I went through a hard time and I felt so supported by people who didn’t even know what was going on.
It is really a chance to reflect on how I want to live. Being here has given me a refreshed appreciation of how I relate to people.
Community building is the biggest piece. And you’re in a space where you have a variety of benefits including hiking and art studios. Just by being here you are already surrounded by people who are curious, community-minded, and empathetic. It feels like a space for growth and learning.
It’s very special to live in the Village where there is an emphasis on joy and hilarity."
