Jubilee Christmas - 1,500 Children Served
Wes's Weekly Wrap Up - Sharing Joy!
In this edition of Wes's Weekly Wrap Up, Wes Tillett, LUM executive director, reflects on the JOY that he witnessed at each of the LUM Jubilee Christmas events this past Saturday. Please take 57 seconds to watch the video and share with others.
Bells Rang for Jubilee Christmas 2020
BELLS RANG this past Saturday (December 12) from churches across the county in celebration of the 40th annual Lafayette Urban Ministry Jubilee Christmas program. Thirty churches and numerous individuals, businesses and clubs provided gifts of new toys, books, food, and clothing, to parents from 525 local households impacting 1,499 local children.

Jubilee Christmas is designed to let mom and dad be the heroes, rather than providing gifts directly to the children or having volunteers deliver toys to the home. Jubilee Christmas strengthens families by supporting the important role of parents at Christmas time.

On Jubilee Christmas Saturday, each family received toys, clothing and stocking stuffers for their children plus a food card, gift wrap, homemade Christmas cookies and a restaurant gift card. A program of this size is a real benefit to our local retail economy. Gifts and food for Jubilee Christmas are purchased locally, and gift cards are redeemed locally. As a result of this program, LUM will see fewer requests for emergency rent and utility assistance in January and February.

If you participated or made a donation this year, THANK YOU! And, Merry Christmas!
VERY SPECIAL THANKS to all of our Host-Sites who, during a pandemic, hosted all of our families, and whose members donated an incredible number of toys, clothes, cookies, blankets, food cards and more. Jubilee Christmas could not happen without their support over the past 40 years.

Generous Gifts to LUM This Holiday Season
The Community Foundation - $10,000 Gift
Lafayette Urban Ministry is thrilled to report that the Community Foundation of Greater Lafayette has awarded LUM a grant for $10,000 for security upgrades at the LUM Ray Ewry Youth Center, which is home to LUM Youth Programs, Protein Food Pantry & Emergency Shelter. The money will be used to upgrade all of the exterior door locks and security cameras. The safety of our children, guest, clients, volunteers and staff members is a top priority. This upgrade will not only better protect these individuals but also secure the building and all that is within it (people & possessions). Many thanks to the Community Foundation of Greater Lafayette for their continued support of LUM.
IBEW Local 668 Donate 36 Hams & More
Thanks to the members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 668 for their recent donation of 36 hams and macaroni & cheese meals to Lafayette Urban Ministry. The hams will be distributed to local families at the LUM Protein Food Pantry, just in time for Christmas. LUM is grateful to IBEW 668 for their continued support of the LUM mission.
Grace Lutheran Church Donates Needed Items
The members of Grace Lutheran Church collected and donated a truck-load of much "needed items" to Lafayette Urban Ministry. Some of the items will be used in the LUM Emergency Shelter and some will be distributed to the families served by the LUM Protein Food Pantry. LUM is very grateful to Grace Lutheran for their continued support of those served by LUM Programs including local families, children and individuals experiencing homelessness.
Electric Plus Donates $10,000 including Gift Cards
The management at Electric Plus, headquartered in Indianapolis, decided to help agencies in the cities of their various offices, including the one in Lafayette. They also wanted to support local business. The employees donated $5,000 and Electric Plus matched that for a total of $10,000. Vince Aynes & Pat McCarthy recently presented LUM with a check for $5,700 plus $4,300 worth of gift cards from more than 15 local businesses. The LUM staff members have begun distributing the gift certificates to the families enrolled in the After School Program and guests in the Emergency Shelter and Winter Warming Station. LUM is grateful to the management and employees at Electric Plus, especially those in the Lafayette office, for selecting LUM as the recipient of this wonderful gift. It is such a blessing especially this time of year. {Pictured L to R: Vince Aynes; Nina Morgan, LUM Protein Food Pantry director, and Pat McCarthy.}
Become a Tax Assistance Program Volunteer
No Experience Necessary - Start in 2021
Make a difference in your community by becoming a LUM tax volunteer. Volunteers are needed from mid-January through April 2021 for the LUM Tax Assistance Program. No experience is necessary — and training is provided. You may even qualify for continuing education credits.

As a LUM tax assistance volunteer, you’ll join a program that’s helped millions of people file tax returns at no charge for more than 40 years. There are a number of volunteer roles available — click HERE to see descriptions. Due to COVID-19 protocols, more volunteers are needed. Some require accounting experience (tax preparer) but some do not (check in/greeter).

If you are interested or need more information please click HERE, or please call or email Josh Prokopy (765-423-2691 | jprokopy@lumserve.org).
