Friday, November 17, 2023, CCRA President-Elect Michelle Caldwell addressed California Supreme Court Chief Justice Patricia Guerrero, Sen. Thomas Umberg, and members of the Judicial Council in San Francisco regarding Gov. Code Section 69950.5, transcript rate uniformity.
CCRA’s message was clear:
· We are committed to working together to come to a fair method of calculating transcript rates.
· Stakeholders statewide must be involved in the collaborative process in reaching that goal.
· After finally securing a folio rate increase 30+ years overdue, we will not settle for a uniformity standard that includes a reduction in pay for any CA reporter.
· We are committed to keeping a seat at the table for any and all discussions about transcript rates and methodologies.
We have been heard, and our comments were well-received. A report from the Judicial Council about transcript rate uniformity is due to the Legislature by January 1, 2024. CCRA’s comments and recommendations are included in the final report. As always, CCRA will continue to share any updates as they develop.
