Judo Canada Women's Self-Defence Instructor Course - Abbotsford - June 21-23, 2024 - REGISTER STILL OPEN!

The Abbotsford Judo Club will be hosting the Judo Canada Women's Self-Defence Instructor Course, June 21-23, 2024. This course is open to both men and women.


Judo Canada's goal is to train instructors so that this new program can be offered across Canada: in judo clubs, in schools, in women's centers, etc.


The program will take place in two parts:

Friday evening - Theoretical (those who have already taken the online training, do not need to take the theoretical part)


Saturday & Sunday - Practical.

REGISTER SELF-DEFENCE

Team BC Travel to 2024 US Open Championships - Florida, USA - July 26-31, 2024 - REGISTRATION OPEN! LAST CHANCE - Late Deadline June 15.

Team BC will be travelling to Fort Lauderdale, Florida USA, for the 2024 US Open Championships, July 26-31, 2024. Registration for Team BC travel is open - last chance, late deadline is June 15.


The 2024 US Open Championships (July 26-28) is a widely attended tournament with last year having over 2,200 participants from Bantams to Veterans. This tournament is also followed by a Training Camp (July 29-31) with this year's guest list to include: German Velazco, Israel Hernandez, Colton Brown, Robert Eriksson, and Driulis Gonzalez.

Team BC travel to this event is open to the following divisions: Intermediate (Born 2012-2013), Juvenile (Born 2010-2011), Cadet (Born 2007-2009), Junior (Born 2004-2009), Senior and Veteran.

2024 HP Summer Camp - UBC, Vancouver - August 16-18, 2024 - REGISTER NOW!

The HP Summer Camp will be held at UBC from August 16-18. This camp will focus on judo training, fitness training, strength & conditioning, and physical & judo testing in preparation for the 2024-25 competitive season. This camp is mandatory for all Judo BC athletes & coaches wanting to be members of the 2024-25 Provincial Team Program.

The Judo BC Equity Committee is happy to announce that the Girls Camp is back this summer! Woot woot! It will be held at Loon Lake in Maple Ridge from August 26-28, 2024. This camp will focus on judo, activities, and fun. This camp is recommended to all females in preparation for the 2024-2025 Judo season. Registration is limited.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Judo BC - Coach 2.0 - Italy - June/July 2025 - REGISTER NOW!

Coach 2.0 is a program created by Judo BC for up-and-coming BC competitive coaches to increase their knowledge and experience and culminates with a coaching seminar in Italy in June/July 2025. The purpose of this program is to support Judo BC and Judo Canada’s High-Performance mandates and to encourage BC coaches to continue their progress along the NCCP coach’s development pathway.


The information below outlines the criteria for selection to the Judo BC Coach 2.0 program. These criteria were created by the Sport Development Director/Head Coach and reviewed for fairness by the Judo BC Coach Development Committee.


Eligible Coaches

  • Minimum NCCP: Dojo Instructor certified
  • Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents
  • Must be Judo BC and Judo Canada member in good standing


Selection Criteria

  • Attend 5 Provincial/National training camps as a coach
  • Attend 3 competitions as a coach outside of BC
  • Attend 1 coach’s seminar/clinic eligible for NCCP PD points
  • Attend 8 regional/provincial practices
  • Have at least one athlete on the Judo BC Provincial Team Program
  • Have completed a minimum of 3 of the 6 NCCP competition development modules


Selection Process

  • Begins July 1, 2024
  • Coaches who want to be eligible must register online with Judo BC for the program no later than June 30, 2024
  • 8 to 10 coaches will be selected, maximum 2 per club
  • Final selection will be in May 2025


If more than 8 to 10 coaches are eligible based on the selection criteria, the Sport Development Director/Head Coach along with the Coaching Development Committee Chair will select the top 8 – 10 coaches based on the following:


  1. Demonstrated commitment to the Judo BC HP team program
  2. Demonstrated commitment to the Judo Canada LTADM at the regional & club level
  3. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing coach development - movement along the NCCP Coach Pathway within the past 2 years and accumulation of Professional Development Points as outlined by the Canadian Coaches Association.
  4. Coach Potential – as assessed by Sport Development Director/Head Coach & the Coach Development Committee Chair
  • Work habits
  • Coach-ability
  • Willingness to increase knowledge
  • Age/pathway – i.e. coaches age vs where they are on the coach pathway


Coaches not selected as one of the 8 – 10 funded coaches may attend on a self-funded basis with the approval of the Sport Development Director/Head Coach.


Additional Information

  1. This Selection Criteria will be adopted by Judo BC and posted on the Judo BC website no later than June 1, 2024, and distributed to clubs via email and to the Judo BC membership via our social media and bi-weekly e-newsletter.
  2. Should amendments to the selection criteria become necessary after the criteria has been adopted, amendments will be clearly communicated to all clubs via email and to the Judo BC membership via our social media and bi-weekly e-newsletter. Amendments will only be considered by the Sport Development Director/Head Coach upon the recommendation of the Coach Development Committee.
  3. Requests for exemptions from any of the selection criteria will only be considered if received in writing by the Judo BC office or the Sport Development Director/Head Coach.
  4. Any person who is of the view that a representative of Judo BC may be in a position of conflict of interest may report this matter to the Judo BC Board of Directors. Decisions that involve a real or perceived conflict of interest will be subject to the Judo BC Conflict of Interest Policy, Section 8, Part 5 of the Judo BC Policies and Procedures.
  5. Judo BC reserves the right not to select a full team for any event.


Appeals

Appeals will only be considered on a case-by-case basis for those coaches that were ill or injured during the selection period in question.

REGISTER COACH 2.O

2024 Veteran World Championships, Las Vegas, USA, Nov.3-7, 2024 - REGISTRATION DEADLINE JULY 31

The 2024 Veteran World Championships will be held in Las Vegas, USA on November 3-7, 2024. See below for more information:


Eligibility

To be eligible, you must be Canadian and present a Canadian passport at the weigh-in.


Affliation

You must have a valid Judo BC and Judo Canada membership. You must also be affiliated with the IJF. The fee is $80 and the affiliation will be valid for 2024 and 2025. Judo Canada will take care of affiliating you if you are not.

It is necessary to book a minimum of 2 nights at the official competition hotel (IJF rules)

*Bed and breakfast

Single occupancy: 290 USD per night / person

Double occupancy: 195 USD per night / person


Hotel Cat. B - Rio Hotel and Casino Masquerade Tower

*Bed and breakfast

Single occupancy: 230 USD per night / person

Double occupancy: 155 USD per night / person


If you choose double occupancy, you are responsible for finding your own roommate.The organizers will not reimburse for hotel cancellations after September 15.


Transportation

Participants are responsible for their own transportation (air). The organizers do not provide transportation from the airport to the hotel.


Medical Insurance

You must have travel (medical) insurance.


Medical Certificate

You must provide a medical certificate stating that you are good to compete and have no medical problems. The certificate must be valid for at least one year prior to the event. You must send the document to Marie-Hélène Chisholm mh.chisholm@judocanada.org before October 14.


Judogi

Athletes must compete wearing an IJF approved judogi (white and blue) from one of the following official suppliers. For more information on judogi rules, please refer to the IJF SOR.


IJF Backnumber

Each competitor is required to sew on the back of his judogi a backnumber with his last name and the abbreviation of the National Olympic Committee. The last name (and any part of your first name) in the backnumber must have the same letters as those registered in judobase since information for accreditations, TV graphics, scoreboard, etc. is provided from this database. The top of the backnumber must be attached horizontally and centrally three (3) cm from the bottom of the neck.


The backnumber can only be ordered at www.officialbacknumber.com or www.mybacknumber.com


Preparation

To help you prepare for this event, Judo BC will be organizing Veterans Regional Trainings. Ensure you are signed up for the Judo BC newsletter and regularly check our Judo BC Website calendar for updates. We aim to have one or two training sessions per month in your region.


Registration

You must register via the Judo Canada website and also submit this form (Hotel) completed to Marie-Hélène Chisholm mh.chisholm@judocanada.org before July 31, 2024.


The registration fee for the competition is US$170. A minimum deposit of $500 must be made during registration via the Judo Canada website, and the additional costs will be charged to you after the competition.
