Supporting The Arts & Arts Councils Everywhere

Volume 5 No. 42 November 10, 2023

Something interesting and wonderful happened recently. Oscar Sales, long-time marketing director at Riverside Theatre and old friend, has offered to produce next week's Arts Blast! I'm accepting the offer as a combination birthday/Christmas gift and feeling grateful for such a good friend.

Can you feel the cool air on your face as you skid down that hill of the final two months of 2023?

Arts Blast's online calendar lists more than 30(!) things to do just this weekend and that doesn't count the many ongoing events!

Something hardly anybody knows about me is that when I was a youngster, when the other kids were reaching for the funnies, I'd grab the racing results. This was a week when my nose directed me to an incredibly beautiful statue of Secretariat. If you don't know the name, Google it. Dabbling in sculpture myself from time to time, I just had to share. Scroll down.

If you're responsible for promoting an arts-related event, send in details using the format at the end of this email. There's no charge for basic calendar listings but your advertising flyer that includes a link to your website will do more to catch readers' attention. Email for advertising information in Arts Blast and Arts Blast on the Air.

Please support small, local businesses. Arts Blast is one of them, so if you have an event coming up, or something artsy to sell or teach, consider advertising it in Arts Blast!

MartinArts Awards 2023

Before there were the MartinArts Awards, there were The Marties. I remember how honored I was to be nominated for one way back when I was producing Arts Spotlight on WQCS, the NPR affiliate on the Fort Pierce campus of Indian River State College.

The awards are presented to an individual in each category with a proven record of artistic excellence, outstanding civic responsibility, and whose leadership has improved the quality of life in our community through the arts.

Guest performers at this year’s event included a performance by Martin County High School’s award-winning OPUS (Outstanding People United to Sing) and the Treasure Coast Community Singers Youth Choir, accompanied by Marguerite Krull. Also performing are Reva Rogers, director of choirs at South Fork High School; Kerry Rocks, vocalist and choir teacher at Hidden Oaks Middle School; David Axton, assistant principal at Hobe Sound Elementary; Rebekah Madebach, actor, and 2023 nominee, pianist Brandon Glick, director of music ministry at St Mary’s Episcopal Church.

Winterfest is the rebranded, signature fundraising event for Riverside Theatre’s educational programs, formally known as Festival of Trees.

Considered Vero Beach’s premier holiday event, this festival transforms Riverside’s campus into a holiday wonderland filled with beautifully decorated trees, centerpieces, wreaths, vendor booths, arts and crafts, live performances, Santa’s Village, and even an “ice” skating rink!
