About the Artist . . .

Regarded as an artist of great depth and virtuosity, pianist Julee An has appeared as soloist in numerous prestigious venues, including the Grand Hall in St. Petersburg, Russia, with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1993, her successful debut at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow was marked as the second and only occasion that a Korean pianist had been invited to perform, the first being the legendary pianist Kun-Woo Baik.

Since her debut as a solo recitalist at age 10 and her debut as an orchestral soloist at age 11, Ms. An has performed in major cities in thirty U.S. states and toured extensively throughout Holland, Switzerland, Belgium, and Germany. She made her first, month long, eighteen-city tour on concert stages throughout Europe at age 17.

Ms. An's has performed as guest artist at the Prince Albert Chamber Music Festival in Hawaii, the Mosel Festiwochen Musikfestival in Germany, the International Piano Series in Charleston, and the Korean Embassy in Washington, DC,  She has also appeared as guest artist at the Music Teachers National Association's (MTNA) state conventions in Texas, Louisiana, and Nebraska. Her performance of Rachmaninoff's
Concerto No.1 with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra was aired live throughout Russia. Many of her live performances have been televised and radio broadcasted in the U.S. and Canada, as well.

Ms. An's many awards include First Prize at the Young Keyboard Artist International Competition, First Prize at the American Music Scholarship International Competition, and First Prize at the National MTNA Baldwin Competition. After performing as the first guest artist for the Korean-American Scholarship Foundation, a scholarship was established by the foundation in Ms. An's name. This scholarship has been awarded, annually, to Korean-American students showing excellence in academics and leadership, since 1991.

Ms. An began her piano studies at age 4 in Seoul, Korea, with her mother, a former concert pianist. She later continued her piano studies with Fred Sahlmann, Julian Martin, John Perry, and Norman Krieger. Her undergraduate degree, a Bachelor of Music, is from the Peabody Conservatory of John Hopkins University, and her graduate degree, a Master of Music, is from the University of Southern California.
