NEWS FROM MOORHALL
Well that was an adventure with Julia Triston. The question we were all asking was, 'will this course happen!'. The floods country-wide were certainly challenging to say the least. Julia managed to get to Clun, which is ten minutes away and Martin and I spent one and half hours in the car trying to get to her. We eventually gave up trying, leaving poor Julia to her own devices in Clun. She managed to get some food and found a friendly pub that offered her a bed for the night. Getting her to us the next day not to mention the students, was another challenging adventure, but the course did eventually start at I think 11.45 on the Monday.

I shall show you the work from the three students that attended and you will see how productive they were. This course is a great adjunct to the Self Study Course that I offer 'Inspired by Line' and I am saying this as Julia will be back in September offering her course again. So if you did this Self Study Course or are planning to then why not follow on with Julia's face to face course on 26th and 27th September 2022.
Preliminary exercises, preparing large sheets of paper using ink, marker pens and wax resist.
The students were then asked to cut papers into squares and reassemble in different ways
These samples were made by cutting out strips of different tones from coloured supplements, gluing them to a background, cutting into squares and rearranging.
Finally collages in different papers were created, printing blocks made to overprint onto these collages, tracings were overlaid and finally a small section was isolated and a stitched sample created.

'From a Drawing to Cubism'
5/12/19/26 April
2.00 to 4.00pm (Tuesdays)
Bookings are already coming in for this four session course over four weeks with the focus on drawing with charcoal. The samples may look a little complex, but believe me when I say excellent results are achievable by you all and every piece of work will be different.
On this course students will work through a series of exercises resulting in two or three fully resolved tonal compositions, which they will take through to colour using pastels. Students will then be shown how works can be developed and adapted into a cubist drawing and then into colour. The course begins on March 29th with a brief introduction.

These first four images are students work where musical instruments were used as a starting point. The next four are samples of my work.

'Upside Down and Back to Front'
Course Description
“Nothing is a mistake. There is no win and no fail. There is only make.” John Cage

The aim of this workshop is to explore playful ways in which images and visual information can be generated and developed through drawing. By working with individual imagery gathered in sketch books, photographs etc, we will be trying to exploit the potential of sometimes the most simple and mundane scraps of image, mark and shape.

HERE IS SOME WORK FROM THE STUDENTS WHO DID THIS COURSE LAST YEAR
Working from a series of sketchbook images, drawings, photographs etc we will explore a number of exercises and processes that will allow you to generate and develop visual information from an apparently simple starting point. By the end of the day you should have a series of images that will form the starting point for the work on day 2, which will be about development and interpretation.

The interpretation of these images into textile materials is the final stage of the project, though you may decide to stay with paper.
A course to keep you thinking and making.
NOW I NEED A FEW MORE PEOPLE TO BOOK ON THIS COURSE.
