JOINS BACK 2 MOTION PHYSICAL THERAPY Elite Athlete and Decorated Division 1 Swimmer Specializes in Sports and Orthopaedic PT "I am excited to work at Back 2 Motion Physical Therapy because I feel empowered to provide the highest quality of care and instruction to my patients. Surrounding myself with both outstanding mentors and motivated patients allows me to continue to deepen my knowledge and expand my expertise in my passions -- Sports and Orthopaedic Physical Therapy." -Julie Granger Jessee PT, DPT |
Atlanta, GA - Julie Granger Jessee doesn't just treat athletes -- she is one. The four time varsity letter and All-ACC Honor Roll Recipient was a member of the Division 1 Women's Varsity Swimming and Diving Program at Duke University. Julie now has the unique ability to integrate her personal experience as an elite athlete with her extensive professional knowledge and training.
It was a career-ending shoulder injury and subsequent year spent in physical therapy with the Duke Sports Medicine program that ultimately solidified her career path. Julie would go on to receive her Doctor of Physical Therapy with Highest Honors from Emory University School of Medicine in 2009 after graduating from Duke University. The Sports and Orthopaedic PT expert is now focused on giving back to athletes and helping them get 'Back 2 Motion.'
One on One with Julie Granger Jessee PT, DPT Q. What is your treatment philosophy?
JGJ: I have a passion for treating the patient as an entire person, investigating not just the symptoms, but the causes of the problem. I thrive on creating patient-centered, sport-specific functional approaches to improvement and restoration of movement. I learn something each day from every patient; by paying attention to those details I can provide the best care possible and empower them to grow stronger than they were pre-injury.
Q. What is your professional experience before joining Back 2 Motion PT?
JGJ: Prior to B2M, I worked as a Physical Therapist at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, specializing in Pediatric and Adolescent Sports Medicine and Orthopaedics. Patients ranged from elite pre-collegiate and pre-professional athletes to young children with acquired or congenital orthopedic conditions. I am trained to perform Dartfish Video Motion Analysis to help athletes restore and improve sport-specific biomechanics prior to returning to their activities.
Q. What is an inspiring patient story that stands out in terms of successful rehabilitation?
JGJ: I worked with a college student who was suffering from debilitating hip pain after a serious injury. Despite a year of numerous appointments with physician specialists and physical therapists, her pain was worsening and she was frustrated that she couldn't comfortably live the active life she once had. We worked as a team to piece together her entire history and get to the root of the problem with manual therapy and an exercise program specific to her needs as a runner, cyclist, kayaker and college student. After two months she was able to do all of her activities without limitations and was empowered to return to an active lifestyle without fear or pain.
Q. How do you spend your time when you aren't treating patients at Back 2 Motion?
JGJ: I'm married to Daniel Jessee -- who is my inspiration for staying active. He is an avid ultra-marathoner, cyclist, and lover of all things outdoors. He has inspired and encouraged me to to stay involved in swimming, running, cycling, Pilates, hiking, and camping. I am a huge sports fan and enjoy cheering for the Duke Blue Devils, Georgia Bulldogs, and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. And of course, being a native Atlantan, I love the Atlanta Braves. I also enjoy cooking and traveling, and playing Scrabble.
