Message from the Chair
Welcome to the inaugural newsletter for Julien’s House. The mission of Julien’s House is to support, educate and empower people through their bereavement journey.

Our monthly newsletter will play an important role by providing you with clinical guidance articles, tools and resources to guide you and your loved ones through your grief, personal stories and of course the latest news about upcoming restorative activities, events and fundraisers.

Please have a read, share it with others and send your ideas for future newsletters to Care@JuliensHouse.ca

INTERNATIONAL SELF-CARE DAY
July 24, 2021
Try a 1-Minute Meditation
Slowly breathe in for five seconds and then breathe out for five seconds. Repeat this five times.

Take a Walk Outside
Walking is so good for your body and your mind. The great news is that even short walks count and can be a real benefit! Walking reduces stress and anxiety, makes you feel happier, more motivated and can even increase your self-esteem.

Lose Yourself in Something you Love
Re-visit an old hobby or try something new. Download an audiobook or podcast. Handcraft a card for a friend. Enjoy a lemonade outside.

Count to 10 Before you Say “No”
Saying “yes” does not always come easily. Do a virtual chat with a friend or say 'yes' to trying a new activity - it might add a little joy to your day!

Loss During Covid-19
Grieving the loss of a loved one while coping with the fear and anxiety related to the COVID-19 pandemic can be especially overwhelming.
Social distancing, “stay-at home-orders,” and limits on the size of in-person gatherings have changed the way friends and family can gather and grieve.

The Benefits of Journaling Through Grief
There is No Right or Wrong
Grief is a natural response to loss. Be open and honest as you write in your journal. Your journal is for your eyes only.

Be Open to your Thoughts and Feelings
A blank page can feel intimidating. Simply write what comes to mind and it will help you process your emotions and better understand yourself.

Let Yourself Reminisce
You will always love the one you lost. Enjoy and remember the memories you have shared together. Memories good and bad deserve to be cherished.

Don’t be Afraid to Plan for the Future
Your loved one would want you to carry on. No matter how small, set one goal for yourself each week.

Site Management Committee - SMC

On Friday, April 23, 2021, what would have been Julien's 28th birthday, the Gaudet family signed ownership of his childhood home over to the charity created to honour his memory, Julien's House.

The newly expanded Site Management Committee - SMC has met to discuss plans for the renovation of the property.  In order to ensure that this plan takes shape in a way that can be supported by the City of Windsor’s Planning and Building departments, the SMC has reached out to City of Windsor representatives to meet virtually to begin planning to move forward in what we hope is a post-COVID era.

Establishing in-person services at Julien's House is a top priority.
