COVID-19 ON THE RISE AGAIN

According to Public Health Ontario, the US CDC and a recent CBC interview with past OHCOW guest speakers (U of T's Dr. Tara Moriarty and Dr. Colin Furness), COVID-19 is trending upwards again. Be aware of Indoor Air Quality (IAQ), the subject of last month's Occ-COVID webinar. Air conditioning can be a key risk without fresh air. It is advised to:

  • Keep windows open
  • gather outside if possible
  • use frequent testing
  • stay home when at all symptomatic
  • use respirators in high risk (enclosed and populated, especially noisy) situations
  • monitor air exchange in occupied spaces when possible

Construction Sector Compliance Plan

As part of the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills (MLITSD) specialized professional services initiatives for the fiscal year 2023-24, one of the occupational hygiene campaigns focuses on worker exposures to chemical agents in the workplace. To support the sub-focus on silica in construction of this campaign, OHCOW provided a demonstration of The Silica Control Tool to MLITSD occupational hygienists and construction inspectors in April, May and June 2024. This Tool can be used to assess and mitigate the risk of a worker’s exposure to silica.
