After adding in the numbers from today's food distribution we have already surpassed the total number of meals distributed in all of 2020.

During the height of the COVID pandemic, food insecurity was front and center in people's minds and hearts. It was consistently discussed on national and local news. Today, we are seeing record numbers of visits to our pantry and requests for financial support.

Thank goodness for your generous support and our local farms! In the last year, the cost of food has gone up dramatically for our clients, as well as for us. We have been able to keep up with the increased demand for our help by giving more fresh fruits and vegetables generously donated to us by HAPCO Farms, Amber Waves, Bridge Lane Farms, Share the Harvest, and Food Rescue US. The Greek Orthodox Church of the Hamptons also donated produce they had left after the end of their successful Hamptons Greek Festival. We are so grateful to Tate's Bakeshop, Slow Food East End, North Sea Farms, and Citarella for donating bread and baked goods to us to share with our customers every week. A huge thank you to Sally Booth and the residents of Quogue for continuing to support us through food drives at the Quogue Post Office.

In the month of July, we served 1849 people, 500 more than last July. We continue to see our neighbors struggle to get by with the rising cost of living. As of the end of this month, we have distributed more meals worth of food to our community than all of 2020 through the height of the pandemic food insecurity crisis.

Our Assistance Program provides a safety net for those struggling to make ends meet. One senior client recently said that "Heart of the Hamptons is like having a warranty for when something goes wrong in (his) life". Here are but a few examples of support we provided to local seniors in July that demonstrate the impact this program makes on our community:

  • Arranged for a yard to be mowed and cleaned up for a low-income senior who is suffering from medical ailments

  • Purchased a 2 week stay at a camp site for a senior who lives in his RV

  • Set up medical rides for a seniors receiving cancer treatments

  • Repaired rotted front steps for a senior

  • Helped purchase a new bike for a senior that uses the bike to get to and from work
