A Message From DWC President Debra-Fisher Reynolds

Well, a lot has changed in the last few weeks! We love Joe Biden. What a patriotic move to Save Democracy and to throw his whole team and accomplishments list to support his choice for the Democratic nomination, Vice President, Kamala Harris.

The enthusiasm for Harris will certainly help Democrats down ballot. In order to continue the good work of the Biden-Harris administration and get things done for the future, we need a Democratic controlled House and Senate.

We wanted young voters and the enthusiasm for Kamala's candidacy is drawing tens of thousands of 18 to 35-year-olds to register to vote and to support her monetarily in numbers not seen for years. ($200 million raised in the first week). Also during the past week, hundreds of thousands of people joined several Zoom meetings to hear Kamala's vision of the future, and exchange ideas on how to keep the momentum going and reach as many people as possible all over the country.

Kamala's eloquence and passion in discussing reproductive rights is inspiring and rallying -- for women, men, and young people alike.

The response to the Zoom calls show that Black women support her, White women support her -- there is excitement and enthusiasm all over the country. Plus, my husband, my brothers, and thousands of men, young and old who are not afraid of strong women, are supporting Kamala Harris to lead this country into the future.

We've also been busy with DWC activities this past month. U.S. Senate candidate Angela Alsobrooks came to our Della's Closet clothing drive July 17 and jumped right in (see photos below). The three-hour collection event in the Ocean Pines Library parking lot was WILDLY successful! A huge thank you to our community for all the wonderful donations -- including some brand new backpacks and other items for back to school for foster children in the area.

Although we don't usually have a DWC meeting in August, we felt we just can't afford to sit on the sidelines at any time in this important election -- especially now, when with Kamala Harris we have such positive momentum. So, we will be meeting on Monday, August 19, from 10 a.m. to noon at the BERLIN LIBRARY. Our special guest, Justin Butler, the Democratic Eastern Shore organizer, will help us explore how to get out the vote and increase Democratic turnout in the county. So bring your ideas and join the discussion!

Thanks to everyone in DWC for all that you do.

Democratic Women Join With the Community in a Successful Donation Event for Della's Closet!

DWC put out the call to the both members and the community at large for our July 17 collection event to benefit Della's Closet -- and the response was incredible! Della's Closet serves children of all ages in the foster care system by providing them with new or gently used clothing, plus backpacks, toiletries, diapers , and other needed items.

Josh Nordstrom, founder of the charity, was on hand for the event, and U.S. Senate candidate Angela Alsobrooks, who was making her way through several stops on the Eastern Shore, came by to talk to members and those donating, and even carried a few boxes herself.

A great event that the whole community got behind -- regardless of political party! Thanks to all who donated and volunteered on a hot summer day.

DWC and Central Committee members helped with the donations and posed for photos with Alsobrooks.

What A Great Day at Public Landing Near Snow Hill!

An enormous Thank You to Carol Pauley for inviting DWC members to her lovely home on Chincoteague Bay for a great lunch, a spectacular view, and lots of good conversation July 15. We need to do fun things like this more often!

On July 25, sitting behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, President Biden told us that history is in our hands. In a speech that registered, at least with Democrats, he told us in plain language what matters the most: Donald Trump is a singular threat to our democracy. That is a fact we live with, as difficult as it is, until this election is over. It's hard to live under a constant threat. But ignoring it will not make it go away. So, Joe Biden has sacrificed his own hopes and dreams in order to serve all of us, to serve the country, one last time.

Joyce Vance, in her Civil Discourse column

After the President's speech from the Oval Office, attended by his immediate family, Dr. Jill Biden posted this hand written note on X/Twitter.

These are real people.

Thank you, Joe.

Thank you, Jill.

POSTCARD PARTIES START AUGUST 7

WE'LL HAVE THE SUPPLIES - COME JOIN US!

Postcard Parties will be Wednesdays at 2 p.m. at the Ocean Pines Library during August and Thursdays, 2 p.m. at the Ocean Pines Community Center in September and October.

School Board Races

We are already starting to write at least 4,000 postcards for the two Board of Education candidates, District 3's John Andes and District 5's Elena McComas. Both have Moms for Liberty opponents that we want to keep off the School Board! The campaigns have provided the supplies, so there is no cost for us. If you want to get started now, contact Gail Jankowski (janfam83@gmail.com) or Joan Roache (beachyogi@me.com), or come to a postcard party!

Other Races

We are watching some high profile, swing state races, e.g., Ruben Gallego, Bob Casey, and Colin Allred. If anyone wants to write for one of those races we will make it easy to write from home or at a postcard party. We will send out information to our "Postcarder List" when one of these races is ready to begin a postcarding effort -- that information will include the contact details for one of our members who can get you the message and addresses. If you not already getting emails on postcarding and want to be on the list, email Joan Roache.

(And, if you already have postcards for the Carroll County School Board race, please finish them and return them to Gail or Joan at an upcoming postcard party.

We will continue our work on voter registration, outreach planning and other activities from now until the election.

For more information on all these activities, and to get on the email list for Political Action Committee meetings and reminders, please contact PAC Chair Joan Roache at beachyogi@me.com

PROJECT 2025 UPDATE

(

Last month, I ran a short article about Project 2025 in our DWC newsletter. Since then, I've seen so many articles, Zoom calls and Facebook postings that have almost daily (thankfully) been putting "highlights" of Project 2025 front and center. This far right, extremist vision of the future that the Republican Party is embracing (although DJT has repeatedly said he "doesn't know anything about it"...) is no secret any more.

Many of Project 2025's authors and advisors took center stage as speakers at the GOP Convention, and the GOP Vice Presidential candidate, J.D. Vance (who says Project 2025 has "good ideas") is oh so connected to its main creator, The Heritage Foundation.

Thanks to the efforts of the advocacy group Red Wine & Blue spreading the word, they report that nearly half of Americans now know about Project 2025 and more are learning about it daily. Red Wine and Blue has developed a set of slides on Project 2025 that goes through the chilling "pillars" of the plan in more detail. You can check out the complete set of slides at

www.redwine.blue/project2025

Heather Cox Richardson was featured on Zoom and Facebook discussing Project 2025 on the day the GOP Convention kicked off -- reportedly hundreds of thousands joined the call. Senator Elizabeth Warren was featured last week on another Zoom call, outlining how Project 2025 would impact the economy. More events are planned by this group from now until the election. You can keep up with events by signing up for their free newsletter.

Every American should know about Project 2025. Spread the word!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO STAFF THE WORCESTER DCC 2024 CAMPAIGN OFFICE IN SNOW HILL!

The Worcester Democratic Central Committee's 2024 campaign office is located at 220 North Washington Street in Snow Hill. Currently, thanks to volunteers, the office is about 70 percent staffed, but we still need some people to fill out shifts from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m, 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. and 3:30 to 6:30, Monday through Saturday. (Parking is plentiful).

This is the most important election of our lifetime. Please consider volunteering to help give out information and signs -- and help us have a continuous presence there during the entire election season. Please check your summer schedule and let me know what works best for you -- a regular weekly schedule, once or twice a month, whatever you can spare. Send me an email at vick1947@aol.com or give me a call at 410-208-2969 with your schedule choice. Thank you for the gift of your time!

We now know that the question on the November ballot in Maryland to enshrine abortion rights in the State Constitution will be Question 1!

The goal is to have an overwhelming majority of Maryland residents vote YES on Question 1 on the ballot in November. Tell your friends and neighbors!

"The proposed amendment confirms an individual's fundamental right to reproductive freedom, including but not limited to the ability to make and effectuate decisions to prevent, continue or end the individual's pregnancy, and provides the State may not, directly or indirectly, deny, burden, or abridge the right unless justified by a compelling State interest achieved by the least restrictive means."

Early voting begins October 24, 2024!

Get Out the Vote in Your Neighborhood: Indivisible's Neighbor2Neighbor Campaign

Neighbor2Neighbor is an easy, innovative tool developed by the National Indivisible organization to help get out the Democratic vote in our neighborhoods. Here's how it works:

Step 1 - Register and join thousands of volunteers signing up to talk to their neighbors

about the stakes of this election -- it'll take all of us to win!

Step 2 - Indivisible's national organization will send you a list of ten Democratic households, a short script, best practices, and an optional printout to leave behind.

Step 3 - Knock on your neighbors' doors and remind them to vote! Hearing from a neighbor is TWICE as effective as traditional canvassing.

As a Neighbor2Neighbor volunteer, instead of being given a long list of strangers, you'll get a short list of your own neighbors, along with a simple script, some best practices, and a printable handout. There's no app to download and you can have these conversations on your own time. When you're done, just sign up to receive the next 10 closest doors!

I have not felt enthusiastic about doing traditional canvassing, but Neighbor2Neighbor sounds easy and effective. If you are interested, read more at

https://www.majorityovermaga.org/neighbor2neighbor and sign up at https://www.majorityovermaga.org/neighbor2neighbor-targets.

You don't have to be an "official" Indivisible member to participate, so tell your friends and family. You will sign up as an individual on the above listed website and visit your neighbors independently. We would, however, love to hear about your experience at one of our monthly Zoom meetings, or email me. And if you don't have an Indivisible Worcester button and would like to wear one for your visits, contact me. We have plenty!

By the Numbers:

23 - That's how many seats we need to defend to keep the Democrats' Senate majority and safeguard the progress we've made

5 - That's how many seats we need to flip the House Blue in November so that Democrats can pass legislation on critical issues like health care, climate change, and the economy

45,000 - That's the number of votes President Biden and Vice President Harris won by, across just three states in 2020. It's a TIGHT margin, and we have to be prepared for November's election to be just as close

98- that's how many days we have left to reach voters across the country, stop Trump and the GOP, and fight to elect Democrats up and down the ballot! Let's Go!

The DWC newsletter is normally published the week prior to the regular monthly DWC meeting. Please submit articles, photos and other items by the 12th of the month to suechallis68@gmail.com
