Message from the President

The sailing season is well underway. It's great to see so many boats launched and out on the water. We have quite a few new members this year so if you see an unfamiliar face, please introduce yourself. If you are a new member, welcome to the club and know that we are all willing to lend a hand in any way (you might have to pay for that "hand" with a drink on the porch!) Drinks on the porch are the official currency of the club.

As part of our lease with the state it's important that we all have our boats properly stickered. All boats with a motor must have a valid PA registration (OH registration's are not acceptable) and your sticker must have a 25 or a 26 on it. Stickers expire March 31 so if it says 24 then it's expired. All boats (in the water or on land, of any size) must also have a mooring sticker on the starboard side, aft of amidship. Mooring stickers are in envelopes in the drink room if you paid with your dues or are available from the club Treasurer if you need extras. The state does conduct random checks and you may be fined by the State if not in compliance.

Our resident pest control expert Gene Soriano has moved his focus for 2024 from geese to racoons and possums. You may have heard or smelled the critters in the clubhouse over the winter. Gene has contracted with a Pest Control company and now believes all offenders have been removed. We now need to close up the entrance (believed to be under the porch) to prevent reentry. Contact Dale Lewis if you can help with that job. Thanks to Gene for his diligent pest control.

Finally, if you are looking for ways to get more involved with the club activities we have a lot going on throughout the year. The club parties are listed below and are always a good time. Sail to the causeway and get your name on the log (see article below). We need a new winner in 2024 (sorry Bill and Jerre), so get sailing. Volunteer to give a First Sail. Help with some projects around the club. There is painting, landscaping, pressure washing, and other small repair/beautification projects that need completed. Contact Dale Lewis for more details.

New Secretary/Treasurer

Effective July 1, 2024 Pat Donnelly will be taking over as the PCC Secretary/Treasurer. Please address all Secretary/Treasurer business to Pat. You can find him at the club most weekends or you can contact him directly to make arrangements to meet.

Pat will be finishing Michelle Bish's current term, expiring October 31, 2024 and he'll be eligible for re-election at that time. Michelle will still remain in her role as caretaker.

Racing on Pymatuning Lake

Racing season is in full swing and we hope to see you out on the race course! Racing is such a great opportunity (excuse) to spend more time on the water, hone in your sailing skills, and meet other sailors on our lake. Our next door neighbors at PYC put on races 4 days a week in the summertime, so there's something for everyone. These events are very well organized by a friendly race committee, and with safety considerations for all involved.

Wednesday night - JAM (keelboat Jib and Main) and Flying Scot

Friday night - Laser and Sunfish (school Sunfish are available to borrow, but please review the article on club boat use below)

Saturday - Flying Scot, Lightning and Thistle

Sunday - Flying Scot Lightning and Thistle

Visit our Racing Page for more information, or contact our Race Liaison, Gene Soriano (724.612.4962), to get involved.

We hope to see some of you on the race course!

Busy spring for our PCC Sailing School!

It's been a busy spring for our PCC Sailing School! In May we kicked off our Small Boat lessons with a mix of new and returning students, and held our first Keelboat class of the season. We finished off the month with Keelboat Instructor Training. This demanding 3-day course tests your own sailing skills, your ability to teach others and your readiness to spot and deal with emergencies. Congratulations to Pat Donnelly and Dave Porter on completing this undertaking. We're excited to have you on board as part of our school!

Visit our Sailing School page to learn more, or contact Lidia for more information (724-967-1910). Don't see an offering that suits your needs or schedule? Contact us and let's discuss how we can help.

"Round the pin" tradition goes on another season!

Get on your boat, and get sailing! That's the motto behind our annual Causeway Challenge! The 2024 Official Causeway Log is now posted at the club house. The rules state that you must sail from the club, to the causeway, round the pin, and sail back. If you made a successful trip, mark it on our log (in the clubhouse).

Each year, winner of the challenge with most trips accomplished is entitled to bragging rights, and you know that goes a long way on the porch! (Questions? Contact Lidia @ 724-967-1910)

PCC Merch is ready for pick up!

Our Spring order of PCC gear is now ready for pick up and will be available at the clubhouse on 6/28. Please look for a packing slip with your name on it!

Use of school boats and shed

Our PCC Sailing School boats are primarily used for teaching during scheduled class times. They are also available to our Members for racing and pleasure sailing, however, you must be authorized by one of our instructors by successfully completing our check-out procedure. The purpose of this is primarily to assure safety of all of our members, and to assure that school equipment, as well as personal craft, remain in good working condition.

If you're not sure what belongs to the school, and what is available, please reach out to Lidia (724-967-1910) or talk to one of our instructors.

NEW OFFERINGS from our Sailing School!

We are pleased to announce some additional sailing class offerings:

  • Keelboat Course - additional dates in August
  • Keelboat Refresher - a non-certificate class

Visit the PCC Sailing School Page for more information or contact Lidia at 724-967-1910.

Remember -

On the first Saturday of every month at 6 pm through October, there is a Hors d'oeuvres party. Just bring something to share! If anyone has ideas for themes or entertainment, please
