Greetings Members and Friends,

We hope you and your families are staying healthy and enjoying these hot steamy days of summer. We are blessed to live in an area surrounded by the ocean and bays so we can cool off from the heat by boating, swimming or dining out at anyone of the fabulous restaurants here in town.

July has been a busy month here at the Chamber. We had an amazing vibrant luncheon in which Senator Brooks presented the highest award given to a business, the New York State Empire Award, which was giving to the owners of the GivNGo gas station for their generous contribution to the community. They raised along with Pink Tie charities, $10,000, for chrome books for students in Freeport .

Also, Randy Milteer, gave a fabulous presentation on how photography can boost your public relations. As he stated, a picture speaks a thousand words! Many connections were made during the event. When it comes to networking it all begins with a conversation.

Our next luncheon is scheduled for August 10th and our speaker will be Geri Barish from the Hewlett House. She will be speaking on cancer awareness. Please mark your calendar. A location will be announced shortly.

We have many activities and events coming up in August. Our annual canoe race will be held Sunday August 1st, down at the Waterfront Park. We are so excited to have this back. It is one of the highlights of the summer here in Freeport.

The Midships are coming! They will be arriving on August 12th to the 15th. If you have never seen them arrive and dock at the Esplanade here on Woodcleft Ave., you must come down to witness it. They come up from Annapolis Navy Academy. We greet the 60 member crew with Chamber bucks, where they can use at participating merchants. Something we love to do, to make them feel welcome.

Then there’s the National Night Out event scheduled for August 3rd from 5:00 PM-7:30 PM. If you would like to be a part of this and or donate food, water, or a raffle, please contact us at the Chamber or contact Lucia Martin -  lumartin@nysenate.gov or call 516-882-0630

Then on August 21st, we have an event scheduled called Bridging the Gap. I will be sending out more information about this event shortly. For now, you can call, 516-377-2425 and or email communityaffairs@freeportpolice.org

Have you checked out our Business of the month? Please visit our website and Facebook page for this and more information about all our members.

Our purpose and mission is to provide the environment to help our members prosper and succeed through a proactive working partnership with all levels of government and local community organizations to achieve a healthy local economy and quality of life.

The more we work together the stronger we are. We encourage and invite your participation in all our activities and events.

We want to give a shout out to one of our members Janna Rodriguez, owner of The Innovative Daycare, as she was nominated by Laura Curran to the board of the Nassau County Office of Hispanic Affairs. Janna, is an amazing young woman who knows the meaning of giving back to the community.

Last but not least, every Thursday evening at 7:00 down by the esplanade, the LI Arts Council hosts a band for your enjoyment, so come on down!

Enjoy each day as we head into August. The summer goes by so fast.

Sincerely,
The Freeport Chamber
