We hope that everyone is enjoying the Summer so far! After a nice, relaxing 4th of July holiday, it has been more lively than ever here at the studio in the mornings. BUT WHY? Oh, thanks for asking - our Family & Preschool classes are up and running strong, plus an all-new Instrument Discovery Workshop as well as Rock Band Camp. Guess what...There is still space to register in most Summer Workshops!

Please also remember that we now have more online services than ever before - schedule a make-up, pay for lessons & more! We have added permanent links to these useful sites on the left side of the newsletter, as well as on our homepage at:

Don't miss the NEW 2014-2015 Studio Calendar on the left of the page. Save it and be informed of all holiday closures and Concerts!
Do you have a budding musician on your hands that is ready to start learning real musical skills on real musical instruments? We do not recommend private lessons for children under 5 1/2 - but this is the perfect age to begin a group class!
Our fun and unique class for budding musicians is structured to introduce children to basic musical concepts in an organic way, with the intention of building a solid foundation that will apply to any musical instrument your child may decide to pursue at an older age. Students will study the elements of music (melody, rhythm, and harmony) and have an opportunity to apply these concepts on the piano/keyboard and various percussion instruments (drums/bongos, maracas, rhythm sticks & more). These ongoing classes focus not only on the joys of music-making, but also on basic note and rhythm reading as well as developing active listening skills (hearing notes and the different timbres of musical instruments). This is a preparatory course for students that are too young for private music lessons, but wish to have a head start on a formal music education.

Student of the Month
Congratulations to Dana Gelo!
Dana will receive (along with priceless glory and endle
ss bragging rights) a $30 Gift Certificate to Music Time Academy, as well as a $20 gift card to the Cinema West Theater in Livermore!
Instrument: Guitar
Teacher: Tim Garry
Age: 14
Grade: 10th
School: Granada High
Student Since: April 2011
Hobbies (besides practicing): Tennis
"Playing guitar is not just a hobby, but a passion to me," says Dana. Although she is only a sophomore in high school, Dana has already spent six years learning the guitar, attending regular weekly lessons the entire time. Her dedication to music has motivated her to take on several students of her own in order to pass along what she has learned so far.
Dana recently began volunteering in the office here at Music Time Academy, which clearly has nothing to do with us selecting her as Student of the Month. Seriously though, we could not be more proud of having the opportunity to witness Dana grow and progress so much as both a musician and a person in her years here.

Do you know a current Music Time Academy student with a newsworthy musical story or accomplishment from the past month that should be featured? If so, please fill out our online nomination form by following this link:  STUDENT OF THE MONTH NOMINATION FORM
Teacher Feature
For July, we would like to feature another one of our talented, multi-instrumentalist staff members,
Xavier Guerrero.
Xavier (pronounced "HA-vee-air" not "ex-EH-vee-ur", and spelled "Xavier" not "Javier") is one of the longest standing instructors of the Music Time Academy team. As a staff member since 2010, he has worked with hundreds of students of all ages and skill levels on voice, guitar, piano, bass, ukulele and drums. You might recognize Xavier from one of his many appearances at our concerts.

A Northern California native, Xavier is a seasoned guitarist, bassist, vocalist and songwriter with a college level education in various aspects of music (theory, performance, history). Known not only for his strong, soulful vocals, general musicality, and solid guitar and bass skills, Xavier is also respected for his audio recording/production knowledge. He has decades of performance and gigging experience across the West Coast with a variety of groups including The Dream Tellers, Go Kart Mozart, The Undercovers, and his current original project, Black Box Radio (forthcoming EP in Fall 2014).

Xavier speaks multiple languages (including Spanish and Japanese), is a proud new daddy to two new kittens, and is our resident video game nerd.
