Canned and non perishable food donations in June will be donated to Faith Mission.   Please help by bringing your canned and non-perishable food items to the food table located in the narthex.

It's time again for the annual school supply collection for Lutheran World Relief. School supplies are on sale at WalMart and other retailers and you can donate everything on the list for less than $6.00. Copies of the Supply List are on the HeartLine and soon a basket will be in the Narthex for you to leave your donated  supplies. These supplies go to children in the U.S. and around the world, in areas of poverty and limited resources. Please be generous.
Our quilters have been busy sewing and making quilts. They are in need of fabric to make additional quilts. They also need folks who will sew quilt tops. If you have fabric you are welcome to bring it to the church office. If you can help with sewing quilt tops please contact Jeanette Fair at 979-277-8035 .

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 9 - God's Work, Our Hands Sunday!

Save Sunday afternoon, September 9th, on your calendar to come to Christ and help package and box more than 10,000 meals for our ministry partner Rise Against Hunger.

As some of you already know, the attendance by children and their families at our lunch program at the BHA Community Center has been very sparse. Part of the reason is that BISD Summer School, J.A.M. and the Boys and Girls Club are feeding many of the children in our community, using the same BISD meals that we provide. The churches that are hosting this project met and agreed that we should suspend the program at the Community Center until mid-July, when those other programs will be ending. After mid-July there should be quite a few children needing lunches and we will open our program up again to serve them.
The Community Center program will restart on July 23rd and Christ Lutheran will serve meals on the three Thursdays after that date and before the new School Year begins on August 16th.
An important difference is that we will not be using BISD and USDA food so all of the rules and limits on who we can serve and how we operate will no longer apply....and each church will supply all of the food on their serving days.
There will be a sign-up sheet for the three dates that we will serve...July 26th, August 2nd and August 9th. Please consider volunteering for one or more of these dates if you are able.
Sorry for all the time some of us spent training, but in this, our second year of the program, we're still finding out what the community actually needs and how we can meet that need.
And for those of you who served already on those low attendance days, we hope you agree with the committee's decision to stop pouring so many resources and volunteer efforts into serving so few.  The good news is that those children are still able to go to Alton Elementary or the High School for free lunches through mid-July

A Big Shout-Out to James Morgan for the awesome water well he constructed in the Narthex...it's a scale replica of several of the wells we've dug in Ethiopia in the past four years. Christ Lutheran Foundation has funded four wells and the congregation has funded eight additional wells. We're already past the half-way point to fund Well No. 13, so help us in the next few months as we raise cash to dig wells....our first fundraiser will be $10 coupons for Los Cabos Restaurant, with $5 of each coupon going into our Well Digging Fund. We'll be asking you to buy coupons for yourselves and to sell coupons to friends and neighbors...the meal coupons will be good for August 1st through August 31st. More information on the water well program will be coming to you soon!
Christ Lutheran raised more than $350 for the small MP3 players that contain the whole New Testament and selected Psalms. Our gift was matched dollar-for-dollar by a generous national donor so we raised the equivalent of $700+. Our men and women in uniform will benefit from your gift.

Summer finds us involved in all the typical sunny days activities that  w e love so much! Each week we hold a water play extravaganza, centered a round a theme such as, luau, circus, ice, and wacky science. The goal is to get wet and have fun, but we can always sneak a little learning into the experience!
We look forward to VBS this month, when our staff will join Kandi and her volunteers to provide a week of fun and faith formation with Shipwrecked- Rescued by Jesus! We thank everyone who has a part in making this a special week for children.
Blessings, Ginny Gaskamp
