July 1 Federal Funding Deadline Spurs National Education Emergency in Need of Urgent Action

National and State Education Leaders Sound Alarm on Funding Delays and Cuts

Educators, advocates warn of the crisis facing English learners, low-income families, rural schools, and districts relying heavily on federal support.

Districts in Florida, Texas, California, and other states rely on federal sources for up to 34% of their education budgets, especially in high-poverty and rural areas.

Cuts will impact Title I, Title III, REAP (Rural Education Achievement Program), and nutrition programs and create a domino effect of disruption across school systems.

JUNE 27, 2025 - A coalition of national and state education leaders, advocates, and community organizations will hold a virtual press conference on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at 1:00 PM ET / 10:00 AM PT to address the urgent need for the U.S. Department of Education to release FY25 funds and spotlight the broader threats facing public education funding nationwide.

The press conference will bring together diverse voices to examine how delayed and diminished funding already impacts school districts, students, and educators, particularly English learners, immigrant families, low-income communities, and rural areas.

The briefing will explore not only the immediate harm caused by the delay, but also the growing national concern over federal rollbacks to programs like Title I, Title III, and REAP, staffing and contract cuts within the Department of Education, and the uncertain future of the agency itself.
