Regarding God's Creation
Gen 7:19  The water prevailed more and more upon the earth, so that all the high mountains  everywhere under the heavens  were covered. ... 8:4  In the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, the ark rested upon the mountains of Ararat. 5 The water decreased steadily until the tenth month; in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains became visible.   - NASU       (Bold emphasis added.)

                      The Sunspot Mysteries

John Pendleton's training was a BS degree in chemistry but years ago he left chemistry to pursue full time Christian ministry with his wife Eileen. John and Eileen's home base for ministry is in Zacatecas Mexico.
Eileen is now the president of Aglow Mexico where she travel widely teaching ad mentoring upcoming leaders. John is
Founder and director of the G.I.C.C. - in English, The International Group of Creation Scientists - he travels the Americas and Cuba teaching the YEC viewpoint on creation science that honors God and His word. John keeps some science research projects going along with their ministry. One on these concerns sunspots and this will be the topic of his presentation for the GHCA.

On 7/11 John will show us that there are some really interesting mysteries about sunspots. Most literature tells us that the number of sunspots follow a regular cycle about 11 years long.
These cycles are tied up with the way the plasma in the photosphere of the sun rotates faster at the equator that the poles. The plasma drags the Sun's magnetic field around the sun more and more during the 11 year cycle until it suddenly jumps to the simple unwrapped condition in the opposite polarity and starts the process over again. During this wrap up process the magnetic field lines develop kinks that make cool spots in the photosphere and those are the sunspots.
Along with these two images the
phys.libretxt site comments, " it is still very difficult to build physical models of something as complicated as the Sun that can account satisfactorily for why it changes. Researchers have not yet developed a generally accepted model that describes in detail the physical processes that control the solar cycle."

There are some theoretical models of this process that look fairly good as long as you don't ask too many questions. Questions like why do these cycles seem to precess through some longer cycles and why dose he sun seem to radiate significantly more energy when there are a lot of sunspots in a cycle and significantly less energy in cycles with few sunspots!

These cycles in the sunspot cycle correlate rather well with long term weather extremes over the last thousand years or so. Here the red crosses and blue lines are the observed
sunspot number at the time. The Maunder Minimum time is also know as the "Little Ice Age". The winters were exceptionally cold and many of  the 11 year sun cycles had almost no sunspots at all! When there were more normal sunspot counts in the cycles there was more normal weather or warmer.  wiki article here.

During the Maunder Minimum the River Thames froze a foot thick
and winter festivals were held on the river ice.
In the winter of 1683-84, the Thames was completely frozen for two months, with ice up to a foot thick. Image.

Yes, there are a number of factors other than the sun involved in the weather and temperature but solar radiation is it seems the most important individual factor. On the other hand the estimated changes in solar irradiance are pretty small, around one part per thousand. Water vapor in the atmosphere is next and commonly something like three times more important than the famous CO2 factor as shown here under ImpactsThat makes some more mysteries as well.

Climatologist Cliff Harris presents this interesting chart covering the last 4500 years. It is interesting to notice where the Exodus and the early Christian church fall on this.
Coldest here is the Little Ice Age or Maunder Minimum with a world average temperature about 3 degrees F cooler than that the long term average. Harris also draws attention to the influence of volcanic emissions blocking, absorbing or reflecting some of the sunlight. So there is another complication in how the Earth responds to the Sun's radiation. A staple of longer term controlling factors has been the Milankovitch orbital cycles. But physicist Jake Hebert writing for the ICR here shows that recent new data pretty well nixes that theory's claimed controlling influence.

Of course none of the secular experts consider the possibility of a catastrophic flood in the past and interpret all of their data ignoring any such possibility. That means that the physical data generated by the Genesis Flood is stretched out over many millions of years in secular interpretations. In coming months GHCA will consider how new peoples, languages, and civilization arose after the Flood.

No one seems to be able to understand just how this sunspot process physically works. That is the mystery that John has worked on for some time. He thinks it can be caused by gravitational tidal effects of the planets on the sun's internal processes. There are professional astronomers that have been very skeptical of this kind of idea in the past because those forces are extremely small. On the other hand a professional paper was published on 5/27/19 presenting a tidal effect theory. One can see the press report here.

So, it looks more like John is on to something like that or perhaps even better. Are the secular experts catching up with the creationist again?

On July 11th GHCA will have the joy of welcoming John and Eileen. John Pendleton will educate us about the sunspot mysteries and his proposed solutions and what difference it makes. This is sure to be an adventure that opens the eyes and mind and awes us with the beauty of God's creation.

Examples of Important YEC Scientific Evidences

Some major examples of physical evidence we point to include:
  • Remains of original soft tissue still found in dinosaur bones. Along with that tissue is C-14 that would decay completely away in less than a hundred thousand years, a tiny fraction of the dinosaur fossil's supposed age.
  • For many years geologists have found C-14 in fossil carbon throughout the fossil record. So, the entire fossil record is less than 100,000 years old.
  • The origin of the information and molecular machinery in the first living self-reproducing cell remains a complete enigma for biologist and biochemists.
  • In the origin of the universe, big bang theory is being recognized as a dead end by increasing numbers of secular scientists. The hypothesized inflation has nothing to start it, drive it forward, or stop it. Without inflation fatal flaws appear with the absence of predicted antimatter, magnetic monopoles, or any means for the whole universe to come to the same precise background temperature. Then the formation of the first stars is as enigmatic as the origin of the first biological cell. Dark matter and dark energy are as enigmatic as the galactic motions they are needed to explain.
At the root of all standard science are many assumptions that may be quite incorrect. At the top is that there is no God. Another is that present process can be used to explain everything in the past. When we look at a canyon we are taught to assume the river at the bottom cut the canyon. But perhaps tectonic events made the canyon and there is a river at the bottom because water always flows downhill. At the root of big bang theory is a pure assumption that has been named the "Cosmological Principle". Perhaps inaccuracies there are responsible for the big bang's multitude of problems.

There is more about the role of assumptions in science found on our website here. There are many more resources on young earth and young universe evidences here.
