July 15 Greetings

Dear Ones,

It’s Thursday of the second week of July. This will be our last Thursday email from our pandemic daily email series. Through the end of the month, we will have Tuesday, Friday and Saturday emails and beginning in August there will be a Tuesday email that will include faith journey enrichment and encouragement and the Friday email will be a weekly newsletter with a new look.

This month we are collecting backpacks and school supplies for the Humboldt Unified School District. Donations are coming in, and we are now putting them around the altar on the church chancel. We are looking forward to blessing them on July 25 during worship and sending them on their way to excited school children as classes begin in August!

Speaking of July 25…we will be celebrating Christmas in July on Sunday the 25th and will be singing Christmas carols and hearing the Christmas story during worship! Anyone out there willing to volunteer to help bake Christmas cookies to share after worship, let me know!

Have you signed up yet?

Another indication that things are slowly getting back to normal…there is a Vitalant blood drive scheduled at Emmanuel:

  • Monday, July 19, 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.: Emmanuel Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 7763 E Long Look Dr. Prescott Valley! We won’t be posting any other donation opportunities, because we hope that you will schedule to donate at our blood drive. Drop-ins are welcome!

Blood supplies are always low in the summer and donations are especially needed. You can go to the Vitalant website www.vitalant.org and sign up.

We need volunteers to help after contemporary worship this Sunday, July 18 to move all the tables and chairs out of the Fellowship Hall to prepare for the Blood Drive on Monday. Plan to be at the church at noon, and of course the more people who can help, the faster it will go! Click here to let Mary know in the church office if you can help.

While there is no inherent risk of getting coronavirus when you donate blood, donors and staff are required to wear masks or reasonable cloth-based face coverings. Read our COVID-19 FAQs.

The Grand Canyon Synod Diakonia program is offering two information nights in the next month. If you are interested in leading or more fully participating in the life of the church, the Diakonia program equips lay leaders with foundational knowledge of the Bible, Lutheran doctrine, and church history. This intensive, two-year program also provides students the opportunity to learn and practice skills necessary for communicating the gospel, visitation, ethical decision making, and more. Online Zoom sessions are as follows:

We just received notice that Prescott Area Habitat for Humanity locally has an opportunity to receive up to $50,000 by participating in the A Community Thrives – Challenge Grant offered by USA Today Newspaper. It’s an online campaign; click here to donate through the MightyCause Donation Platform, and donate between July 19 and August 13 at 9:00 a.m. for the donation to count toward the grant. PAHH has to raise $10,000 in one month’s time! See the flyer for more information.

I have to admit that I am obsessed with nectarines but have always found cutting them up to be a chore. Here is a video with a new way of doing it that eliminates the “pit frustration” that happens when cutting up cling fruits with pits!

It’s been a while, so it seems appropriate that we have the electric toothbrushes featured in our last Thursday email. Here they are playing William Tell Overture!

Monsoon sunsets can be amazing! Here is one from my front porch on Monday, July 12.

A Bible verse for today:

And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, just as we abound in love for you.

1 Thessalonian 3:12

Yours in Christ,

Pr Tricia
