on Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. A Zoom or Facebook account is not required to view the service.
If you are missing a sense of community while participating in our online worship, we invite you to try out the Facebook Watch Party for our Sunday Services. The Watch Party can be found on our
Facebook Page

Sunday mornings at 10 a.m.
(though folks begin gathering and chatting around 9:50 a.m.). There you can watch the service with others in real time, greet each other and exchange the Peace, and know that though we are in
different places, the Body of Christ continues
to gather as The Falls Church Episcopal.

During the summer season, we will continue to gather for an informal digital coffee hour. We'll have gathering time as a large group, and then split up into smaller groups for conversations on where we saw God this past week, and how we are cultivating practices of sabbath rest and renewal during these strange times.
Join us on Zoom
at 11am.

TFCE Welcomes Bishop Taylor
|
|
Assisting Bishop began his diocesan ministry on July 1
Bishop Porter Taylor joins the Diocese of Virginia staff after three years on the faculty at Wake Forest University Divinity School. Prior to his post there, he served as the Sixth Bishop of Western North Carolina for 12 years. Before his election to the episcopate, he served parishes in Tennessee and Georgia. Bishop Taylor's office is at TFCE, and he and his wife, Jo, live in Arlington.
Bishop Taylor's latest meditation is
Lighting Small Fires to Bring About Lifelong Change:
Some years ago, I was lost. Not geographically. I knew where I was; I just didn’t know where I needed to go or how I could get there if I did. I found myself in what the Desert Mothers and Fathers called “the noon day devil.” It’s when you’ve run through all your good ideas and your favorite verbal quotes and your various ways of denial and it’s just you.
The poet Elizabeth Sewell wrote, “It’s not problems we face. Problems have solutions. It’s some utter deep rooted dilemma.” I think we as a country are in dual deep rooted dilemmas: ravaged by a virus that we cannot or will not get under control; and finally forced to face and deal with the embedded racism that has infected our country since its inception.
I know that our country’s plight is not synonymous with my spiritual issue decades ago, but there is a parallel—at least for me. I went to my spiritual director and after my unloading, he looked at me and said, “Just go straight.” I shook my head and said under my breath, “What does that mean?” Yet it turned out to be very helpful. The Little Free Food Pantry
On Fairfax Street near the church’s Thrift Shop is a small “take some food, leave some food” pantry (like the “little libraries” where people can take or leave a book). We are definitely seeing people use that pantry to supplement their groceries, and you can drop off non-perishable food items there at any time.
