Beloved of God,
Lately I've seen and read a lot about what people are learning while our "normal lives" are interrupted by COVID 19. This new wisdom ranges from new banana bread recipes, to a deeper admiration for teachers, to a growing relationship with family members, to realizing that church doesn't have to happen in a building. Now, the Congregational Care Team and I are inviting you to share what you are learning these days. We're calling it
Golden Opportunity: Things We Are Learning in Lockdown.
Please call me or email me or submit your thoughts on the website or facebook. We will gather these through July and then present them. ALL AGES are encouraged to participate!!
I'll get us started:
+ I've learned to appreciate and give space for the different ways people respond to stress. Some get energized by crisis and want to push through. Others are energy-zapped and need extra rest. And there are many responses in between. We find grace when we all acknowledge and respect one another's needs and work together in mutual love and support.
+ I've learned that there is enough drama for me in real life so that I no longer want to watch my usual tv favorites: British crime shows. All I want now is a good cooking or home-repair show in the evening to help me wind down.
Whatever your learning, please consider sharing them with your congregation. Together, maybe we can learn from one another and help to lift each other up.
In peace,
Pastor Sarah

Cemetery Update!
Thanks to the Building and Maintenance team for coordinating the successful removal of the giant elm tree in the church's cemetery. This tree was a disaster waiting to happen as the limbs were hanging over multiple houses.

NURSE'S CORNER
We are blessed to have knowledgeable and caring nurses in our congregation! They have some words of advice for us:
This week is national youth sports week! Seems very appropriate as we head into the dog days of summer and everyone is wondering how they will keep busy while practicing social distancing. Not only does exercise help with overall physical health but it also improves mood, helps people sleep better, and better grades. In older adults it can improve chronic pain, lower risk of disease, and help those with hypertension and diabetes to control blood pressure and blood sugar. That is a win win in my book. Here are some tips on how to get kids moving and why this is important not only for kids but adults too!
* Dance as you are getting dinner ready
* Show them your favorite ways to move
* Sign them up for free or low cost classes
* Encourage active play with friends
The goal is 60 min of moderate activity per day, at least 3 times a week vigorous exercise, 3 times a week bone strengthening exercise, and 3 times a week muscle strengthening In comparison older adults recommendations are 150 min per week of moderate exercise and muscle strengthening 2 times a week. Remember to pray for these nurses and all those on the front lines fighting the coronavirus.
