Contra Costa Celebrates National Disability Pride Month
The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors proudly recognized National Disability Pride Month during its meeting on Tuesday, reaffirming the County's commitment to fostering an inclusive community where individuals of all abilities are valued, respected, and empowered.
Disability Pride Month celebrates the contributions, achievements, and diversity of people with disabilities while promoting awareness, accessibility, and equal opportunities for all. The recognition serves as a reminder of the importance of creating communities where everyone can fully participate and thrive.
The Board is honored to recognize Disability Pride Month and remains committed to supporting programs and policies that promote equity, inclusion, and independence for residents with disabilities throughout Contra Costa County.

San Ramon Chamber of Commerce Hosts State of the County Presentation
Supervisor Andersen was honored to serve as the featured speaker at the San Ramon Chamber of Commerce's State of the County presentation, where she shared an update on the County's accomplishments, priorities, and the issues shaping Contra Costa County's future. Supervisor Andersen pictured right is joined by San Ramon Chamber President, Danielle Cook, and Board Chair, Terry Koehne, who served as emcees of the afternoon.
During the presentation, Supervisor Andersen highlighted the County's recently adopted budget, transportation and infrastructure improvements, public safety initiatives, economic development efforts, and investments in health, housing, and human services. She also discussed the importance of regional partnerships and collaboration in addressing the needs of residents and businesses throughout the San Ramon Valley and the county.
Supervisor Andersen appreciated the opportunity to engage with local business leaders, community members, and Chamber partners, thanking the San Ramon Chamber of Commerce for hosting the event and for its ongoing commitment to strengthening the local business community and fostering economic vitality.

County Program Update
Progress on the Illegal Dumping Initiative
from Fall 2025
Contra Costa County is continuously strengthening its multi-departmental approach to combatting illegal dumping across unincorporated communities like Alamo through a four-pillar strategy: Education, Prevention, Cleanup, and Enforcement. Under recent programmatic updates, the County has expanded its infrastructure and monitoring capabilities to preserve public rights-of-way. Notable progress includes the deployment of high-definition, wireless surveillance cameras at designated dumping hot spots countywide, alongside the addition of specialized per-diem investigators within the Sheriff’s Office dedicated to pursuing misdemeanor dumping violations and uncovered loads.
To streamline public response, the Public Works Department logs all local service requests directly into its MaintStar maintenance management system. This centralized tool maps coordinates to identify and target high-frequency hot spots for strategic camera placement and enforcement resources. Additionally, residents are reminded that curbside residential franchise agreements include options for scheduled bulky-item and extra bagged waste pickups at no additional charge.

Share Your Voice in Contra Costa's Community Health Assessment
Contra Costa Health invites all residents to participate in the Community Health Assessment Survey and help shape future health and well-being priorities throughout the county.
The survey is available in 15 languages, making it accessible to a wide range of community members. Responses will help identify local needs, guide future programs and services, and ensure that diverse voices from across Contra Costa County are represented.
The survey is open through July 31, and everyone who completes it will be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift card.

Tree Removal Work Scheduled on Blackhawk Road
Contra Costa County Public Works will remove three trees along the east side of Blackhawk Road, south of Silver Maple Drive, on July 20–21, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., weather permitting.
The work is being completed to reduce fire hazards and improve roadway safety. During construction, the right northbound lane of Blackhawk Road will be temporarily closed, and traffic control personnel will be on-site to safely guide motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians through the area.
Drivers should expect delays of up to 15 minutes and may wish to use alternate routes during work hours.

Nominations Now Open for the 2026
Threads of Hope Awards
Do you know someone making a difference in the East Bay? The East Bay Leadership Council, in partnership with Diablo magazine, is now accepting nominations for the 2026 Threads of Hope Awards, recognizing outstanding volunteers and philanthropists who are strengthening our communities through service and generosity.
Awards will honor individuals, businesses, foundations, and organizations whose dedication, leadership, and charitable efforts have made a lasting impact throughout the East Bay.

Overnight Lane Closures on Southbound I-680 in Pleasant Hill
Caltrans will begin emergency repairs on southbound I-680 in Pleasant Hill, just south of Willow Pass Road, starting Monday, July 20. The work will address roadway damage caused by winter storms, including pavement settlement, erosion, and drainage issues.
Overnight lane closures will be in place Monday through Saturday, from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., through approximately September 4, 2026.
Closures include the two right lanes, right shoulder, and the Willow Pass Road on-ramp to southbound I-680.
The project will stabilize the roadway foundation, repair pavement and drainage systems, reconstruct slopes, and make permanent erosion control improvements.
Motorists should expect delays and consider allowing extra travel time during overnight hours.

Public Invited to Comment on Bay Area Transportation Funding Priorities
The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) is seeking public input on Draft 2027 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), which identifies near-term transportation funding priorities for projects throughout the Bay Area, including investments in transit, highways, local streets and roads, bicycle and pedestrian improvements, bridges, and freight movement. Comments are also being accepted on the Draft Transportation-Air Quality Conformity Analysis.
The public comment period is open through 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. Residents are encouraged to review the draft documents and submit comments online, by email, mail, or during MTC's Programming & Allocations Committee meeting on August 12. Public participation helps shape future transportation investments across the region.

Danville Adopts New E-Bike and E-Scooter
Safety Ordinance for Parks
The Town of Danville has adopted a new ordinance prohibiting the riding of electric bicycles (e-bikes) and motorized scooters in all Town parks beginning August 6, 2026. Under the new rules, riders may bring their devices into parks but must dismount and walk them while within park boundaries.
The ordinance is designed to help keep Danville's parks safe and enjoyable for everyone, providing a comfortable environment for families, children, pedestrians, and other park visitors.
To help the community prepare, the Town will launch an education campaign ahead of the new school year. Efforts will include park signage, public outreach through Town communication channels, and partnerships with the San Ramon Valley Unified School District and local schools to educate students and families about the new requirements.
Residents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the ordinance and share the information with family members who ride e-bikes or motorized scooters.

Traffic Alert: Overnight Lane Closures on
Eastbound SR-24 in Lafayette
Beginning July 13 through October 1, Caltrans will conduct emergency repairs near the El Nido Ranch Road underpass on eastbound Highway 24 in Lafayette.
The right shoulder and Lane 4 (the slow lane) will be closed nightly from 9:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, while crews stabilize the hillside and repair a retaining wall. Three lanes will remain open to traffic. Motorists should expect delays, allow extra travel time, and use caution when driving through the work zone.

Contra Costa County Fish and Wildlife
Committee Accepting Grant Applications
The Contra Costa County Fish and Wildlife Committee is accepting grant applications until 5 PM on July 27th from nonprofits, schools, and government agencies seeking to enhance local fish and wildlife resources.
The Committee encourages projects focused on habitat improvement, public education, scientific research, protection of threatened and endangered species, and addressing human-wildlife interactions. Special consideration will be given to projects that promote community outreach, multilingual education, and collaboration with law enforcement and community organizations regarding fish and game regulations.
Grant funding comes from fines collected for violations of California fish and game laws. The Committee will review applications and make recommendations to the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors, which has final approval authority.

District 2 Volunteer Opportunity
Behavioral Health Board
One District 2 Family Member Seat Available
Proposition 1, passed in April 2024, included legislation mandating transformation of the public behavioral health system. Provisions of SB 326 included implementation of an integrated Behavioral Health Board. This integrated advisory body is to include designated members of the community prepared to address community mental health and substance use treatment services.
The mandated functions of the Behavioral Health Board include to:
- Review and evaluate the local public mental health system, the local public substance use disorder treatment system, the community’s public behavioral health needs, services, facilities, and special problems where services are being provided
- Advise the Board of Supervisors and the Behavioral Health Director on community mental health and substance use disorder services.
- Review county agreements, adopted Behavioral Health Services Act plan and make recommendations to the local behavioral health agency.
- Ensure citizen and professional involvement at all stages
- Submit an annual report.
- Review and recommend appointment of the local director of behavioral health services.
- Review and comment on county’s performance outcome date
- Assess the impact of the realignment of services.
- Conduct a public hearing on the draft three-year program and expenditure plan and annual updates at the close of the 30-day comment period required by subdivision.
- Provide an annual report of written explanations to the local governing body and Department of Health Care Service.

Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council
The Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council (JJCC) is a multi-agency advisory body that contributes to the development and implementation of a countywide juvenile justice plan. It is composed of several critical parts: an assessment of existing law enforcement, probation, education, mental health, health, social services, drugs, alcohol, and youth resources, which specifically target both at-promise, as well as system involved youth, and their families.
The JJCC will also coordinate the work of governmental and non-governmental organizations engaged in activities designed to reduce the incidence of juvenile crime and delinquency in the greater community. Further, the JJCC will develop information and intelligence sharing systems to ensure county actions are fully coordinated and equipped to provide data and appropriate outcome measures.
There is one At Large Seat and one Youth Representative Seat available. Applicants must either live or work in Contra Costa County. Applications are due by 5PM on Monday, July 6th, Interviews will be either in person, or via zoom, at the July 20th Public Protection Committee.

Help Shape the Future of Early Childhood Education in Contra Costa County
The Contra Costa County Local Planning Council (LPC) is seeking passionate and community-minded individuals to serve on its Board and help guide policies and programs that support young children and families throughout the county.
The LPC plays a vital role in advising on early care and education needs, funding priorities, and strategies to strengthen services for families. Current openings include Public Agency, Child Care Provider, and Discretionary Appointee seats in various regions of the county. Individuals who live or work in Contra Costa County are encouraged to apply and bring their unique perspectives to this important work.
Membership terms are three years and appointments are made jointly by the Board of Supervisors and the County Superintendent of Schools.
