Important reminder on reducing duplicate documentation in Primary Care EMRs
Primary Care Providers (PCPs) have reported receiving a high volume of duplicate documents in their EMR inboxes, creating added administrative burden. To help reduce unnecessary duplicates, please review the Automatic Documentation Routing resource, which outlines what documentation is automatically distributed to PCPs.

Signed clinic and consult notes are automatically sent to PCPs' EMRs. Please confirm reports are accurate before signing to avoid duplicates.

Progress notes are not automatically distributed.
Help reduce duplicate documentation by:
- Reviewing reports carefully before signing. Clinic and consult notes are automatically routed to the PCP's EMR when signed. Any subsequent modification or addendum to a signed note generates and sends another copy to the PCP, resulting in duplicate documents requiring review. Taking a moment to ensure your report is complete and accurate before signing can help minimize unnecessary duplicates.
- Confirming recipients when manually copying documentation. If you are manually copying a colleague on documentation, verify that you have selected the correct provider and practice location to ensure the document is routed appropriately.
Using Future Orders in CIS for outpatient testing
Physicians are reminded that all outpatient investigations—including laboratory tests, diagnostic imaging (DI), ECGs and other diagnostic services—should be entered as Future Orders in the CIS rather than completed on paper requisitions.
A printed requisition is only required when the patient will be having the test outside the zone or at a private facility. For tests performed within the zone, the electronic Future Order in CIS is sufficient. Learn more here.

Call for Provider Peer Mentors
The OPOR team continues to seek Provider Peer Mentors in the Eastern, Northern and Western Zones.
Provider Peer Mentors play an important role in supporting colleagues through the transition to the CIS. They help promote readiness and provide local leadership before, during and after implementation. Participants will be remunerated for time spent on these activities.
