Do you ever walk out the door on your way to church on Sunday morning, all of a sudden remembering you forgot to buy food for the D2 Pantry? “Yikes! I forgot once again,“ I say. My father-in-law sometimes says, “my forgettery is working overtime.”
That seemed to be my case, too. In an attempt to be better at remembering, I’ve decided to do a once-a-month shop for the Pantry and then divide what I buy into smaller amounts that I bring each week. That seems to be working!
The kids aren’t able to carry too heavy a load up to the altar, so I like to divide up individual cans and boxes among the baskets. If it’s easier for you to buy in bulk like I do – say once a month – those bulkier or heavier items are gladly accepted and greatly needed. If you prefer, they can be taken directly to the Parish House for the monthly pick-up to be driven to the Pantry.

I use a grocery app on my phone. It’s called AnyList and it’s shareable so Mike and I can both add to the same shopping lists. We have lists for the grocery, health food store, hardware store, pharmacy, Conscious Living (that awesome package-free shop in Old Colorado City), Target, etc.
What I ended up doing (because I, too, forget to shop for D2 Pantry among other things!) is put a grocery item under “other” on our grocery list that’s simply “D2 Pantry” and I never cross it off the list. That way every week when I go to King Soopers or Safeway, I remember to pick up Ramen or tomato sauce or canned fruit or whatever.
There are other apps you might like better than AnyList. I did a little research, and it looks like people also are raving about these grocery list apps: “Out of Milk,” “Cozi,” “Google Keep,” and “Flipp,” which has coupons if you use them.
So, yeah, take that forgettery!
