Dear Ones,
It’s Tuesday of the third week of July. Yes, our prayers are being answered and the monsoon rains keep coming! Here is a picture from last Thursday over Prescott by KC Poli Qoyawayma of some amazing clouds!

Council President Julie Pavri and I have called the Church in a Changing World Task Force back into action to address the growing concern with the spike in cases of Covid-19 in our state and county because of the Delta variant. Our target number for return to worship in person was a positivity rate of 4% or below, and we hit that in early May. That meant that of the people in our county being tested for Covid-19, 4% or fewer of those tested that week were positive for the virus. Today there were 54 new cases of the virus in the Quad city area and the positivity rate in our county was 14.1%. The task force will be meeting by Zoom this evening, and I will keep you posted about their recommendations to the church council.
Congratulations to our very own Sierra Woolley for being named Prescott Valley Student of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce! She was presented the award on Saturday the 17th at the Findlay Toyota Center as part of the Chamber’s Community Excellence Awards celebration. Sierra, we are so proud of you and all you have accomplished! I can’t wait to see what other great adventures God has in store for you!

Other exciting news about young folks in our congregation: Meg Northrup has been promoted to the rank of Captain in the US Air Force! Daughter of Carol and Parker Northrup, she is stationed in Germany.
Through the end of the month of July, we will have Tuesday, Friday and Saturday emails. There will be no email tomorrow. Beginning in August there will be a Tuesday email that will include faith journey enrichment and encouragement and a Friday email that will be a weekly newsletter with a new look.

This month we are collecting backpacks and school supplies for the Humboldt Unified School District. Donations are coming in, and we are putting them around the altar on the chancel. We look forward to blessing them on July 25 during worship and sending them on their way to excited school children as classes begin in August!

Speaking of July 25…we will be celebrating Christmas in July this Sunday the 25th and will be singing Christmas carols and hearing the Christmas story during worship! If you are willing to bake Christmas cookies to share after worship, let me know!

We are so happy with the turnout for our first blood drive after the pandemic quarantine! We had 45 donors and are especially thankful to Gail Jedlund for facilitating the registrations and being present for the whole blood drive, and also for those who stayed on Sunday after the second service to move all the chairs and tables out of the Fellowship Hall! Remember that blood supplies are always low in the summer and donations are especially needed. You can go to the Vitalant website www.vitalant.org to find a donation site near you and to sign up.

The Grand Canyon Synod Diakonia program is offering two information nights in the next month. If you are interested in leading or more fully participating in the life of the church, the Diakonia program equips lay leaders with foundational knowledge of the Bible, Lutheran doctrine, and church history. This intensive, two-year program also provides students the opportunity to learn and practice skills necessary for communicating the gospel, visitation, ethical decision making, and more. Online Zoom sessions are as follows:

What do you get when you start with a guy with some drums, add a drum major with a glockenspiel and 10 geese? The Ganzenparade in Germany, of course!
Bible verses for today, just in case you have any doubt about what Jesus has called us to do! |
Yours in Christ,
