Dear UCC Women's Auxillary, Thank you so much for your $300 contribution to the Comet Care Center. The funds are greatly appreciated. This year, we supplied basic school needs to nearly 50 students, as well as giving out about 10 backpacks. In addition, we provided toiletries for students who were left homeless as well as for a couple who simply could not afford the items themselves. Finally, we helped a few students who would not have been able to walk in the graduation ceremony because they couldn't afford a cap and gown, be a part of the commencment ativitiy through our cap and gown loan.  All of this through the funds you provided. Again, thank you so much for your generosity! Kindest regards,
Carrie Schuknecht
Comet Care Center Coordinator

Dear C.E. Committee,
Thank you so much for the Walgreens gift card in recognition of my service I have enjoyed working with the Cherub Choir kids and love to see the improvement they make as the year progresses. I am happy to work with the kids, and though the gift card was not necessary, it is appreciated!
Thanks again,

July Worship Opportunities

Summer is a great time to enjoy a more relaxed worship experience.  We worship each Sunday at 9am with fellowship time in the lobby following worship.  Here are a couple of highlights...

Sunday, July 6 will be our Summer Communion service.  Remember all are welcome at the table!

Sunday, July 27 at 9:30am will be the Ecumenical worship in the Phoenix Park.  Bring you lawn chair and gather at the band shell.  This year the United Methodist Church is our host so in case of rain we will meet there.  We meet a half hour later than our usual time.

Hope to see you in worship!
Rev. Laura

FADC2014
Fine Arts Day Camp

Our 6th annual Fine Arts Day Camp was held June 16-20. We served 53 students and our church was filled with dance, art, cooking, drama, music, laughter and joy all week long! Through this project we reach out to families throughout Walworth County providing quality educational experiences in the arts for students in grades 2 - 7. While each student pays a $50 fee to attend, the greater part of the budget is supported by the congregation, and for that, we are truly grateful.

FADC2014

There are MANY people involved in this outreach that supports the youth in our community. Our hot lunch program is truly a gift to the students and staff. Thanks to Mary Kaye Merwin and Claritta Abell for their marvelous leadership in the kitchen. We also want to thank all of the helping hands in the kitchen: John Stack, Cindy Cieslack, Jean Dibble, Kathy Hankins, Diane & Bill McKoy, Ruth Haase, Terry Wenzel, Ruth Hanson, Jean Dibble, Dori Block, Lisa Dettman-Webb, Christopher & Michael Dettman, Julia Deller, Joyce Stickney, Heidi Terpstra, Mary Knipper, and Henry McLeod.

We had wonderful volunteer helpers assist the teachers. We thank them for their invaluable assistance in the classroom: Nicole Spence, Sam Bochat, Jean Dibble, Ruth McLeod, Betty Schalmo, Mary Sibilski, Henry Hurwitz, Dakota & Paige Sammons. We also want to thank our two camp assistants Lexie Hubbard and Kelley Douglas for all of their efforts helping camp run smoothly.

FADC2014

Our teachers this year were Josie Palmer, Mark Thomas Noel, Brian Plehn, Kathy Sibiliski, and Ginny Hall. They were fantastic providing professional curriculum and learning experiences and we thank them for all of their great work with the students.

FADC2014

We wish to thank Mark and Ruth Hanson for the beautiful pottery bowls we gave as gifts to our volunteers. It was wonderful to give such an artistic gift for those who are passionate about the arts. Finally, special thanks Rev. Laura for her support and work in making this a memorable experience for our students!

Patti's Prescriptions
July - Heat Exhaustion / Sunstroke:

"Jacob's well was there; and Jesus, tired from the long walk, sat wearily beside the well about noontime."
John 4:6 NLT

The summer sun in moderation is healthy but can become dangerous if the body gets too warm.
Excessive activity, exercise, or time in the sun will increase the body's temperature which makes you sweat in an effort to release that extra heat. Sometimes this response becomes overloaded, shuts down, and causes a potentially life-threatening condition known as heat stroke or sunstroke. Your symptoms can range from clammy skin, dry mouth, fatigue, dizziness, and headaches to an absence of sweating, shallow breathing, confusion, loss of consciousness, or even death. This rise in body heat can also occur if you participate in an excessive amount of exercise without replacing the body's fluid. A loss of fluid will occur at a faster rate if your activity is outside in the heat or during times of high humidity. Because of this rapid loss, you will not be aware of your dehydrated state and you will become overheated very quickly. To combat the risk of heat stress or stroke, when exercising or working in a hot environment you must drink 2-4 glasses of water (16-32 oz) each hour to replace in the fluids lost trough sweating. To prevent heat stress or the more serious condition of heat stroke, it is important to know risk
factors and tips for prevention. High risk individuals are infants, toddlers, and the elderly as they are not able to control their body's heat as well as adults. People with disabilities, chronic diseases, certain medications, and working environments in extreme heat are also more susceptible to heat illnesses. Be observant. Decrease the possibility of heat illness by dressing in cool clothing and drinking plenty of fluids without caffeine. Ask you doctor about side effects of your medication, stay in cool places when it is hot and humid, and find shade when working or playing in the heat.

Dear UCC-Delavan,
We would like to thank you for your recent gift to support Community Action's Twin Oaks Shelter. Your gift helps us accomplish our mission: to provide access and opportunity for those we serve an those who support our efforts. Through innovative programs and strong community partnerships we eliminate barriers, establishing clear pathways to economic self-reliance. Community Action's model is one of helping people help themselves by building their skills, assets, knowledge, and self-esteem, rather than giving one-time fixes or hand-outs. The contributions of you and other friends are truly indispensable in accomplishing this important work. We thank you for your sensitivity and kindness in helping struggling residents of our local communities find ways to make a better life for themselves and their families. Your gift will help make a real, positive impact in the lives of many among us. At Community Action, we are more dedicated than ever to helping our communities ucceed, and we thank you once again for being part of our circle of friends who help make our mission a reality.

With deep gratitude,
Taylor Bamgbose
Development Manager

Dear Laura,
On behalf of the committee members of the 14th Apostle/Human Concerns committee, I thank you and the members of the Benevolence committee for the $10,000 grant. I decreased the amount requested this year because we have had the good fortune to receive monthly donations from a local business, and because we had funds from the Salvation Army to help. I felt that the extra money could be used by other groups. I also thank you for supporting the Salvation Army kettle drive. Many other ministers give token support, but not with your enthusiasm. I am proud and happy to be a member of our church and of the Human Concerns committee. As you pointed out in your sermon last Sunday, we do try to "make things good".

Sincerely,
June Yantis
Delavan Human Concerns Committee

Dear UCC-Delavan,
We've crossed the finish line! Thank you for your enthusiastic participation in our 2nd Annual Undy 500! This year, we doubled the amount of teams, and reached our goal, collecting over 5000 pairs of underwear, socks, and t-shirts for our shelter guests! Even more, your engagement on social media helped to raise awareness of the Guest House and motivated individuals in the community to donate. The Guest House serves 86 men in shelter every night, serving over 400 men annually. The items provided by your team will go a long way to make our many guests comfortable and will help to enhance their personal health and hygiene. The effect is even greater, your gifts and generosity begin to restore the dignity of our guests, which proves vital to their continued success in overcoming homelessness. Thank you again to all of our teams and to the many people you engaged in this fun and exciting supply drive. If you have any thoughts or comments about the Undy 500! that you would like to share with us, we welcome your feedback. Feel free to contact me.

With deep appreciation,
Rev. Erik Koepnick
