Summer is in Full Swing!
We hope you are getting outside and enjoying the summer weather! With these warm days, it is more important than ever to stay properly hydrated. But before you reach for your favorite beverage, check out the nutrition label to see how much sugar it contains. You may be surprised at the amount of sugar you find. Drinking lots of water is a great choice to cut down on excess sugar and calories. If you're craving something sweet, try making your own lighter beverage using seltzer with a splash of 100% juice, fresh herbs, or teas. Try these recipes for healthy summer beverages from our website. Enjoy the rest of the summer. - Pam Hess, Executive Director

GWArc Cooking Classes
Participants in both the day and evening recreation programs at the Greater Waltham Arc (GWArc) have enjoyed chopping, mixing and measuring fresh and healthy ingredients with Chef Reva and sharing a meal or snack together. At a recent cooking workshop, they made garlic bread knots, meat balls in tomato sauce, garden salad with ranch dressing and chocolate banana smoothies! Thank you Renee and Mike for your wonderful support of the workshops!

Renee Emmonds, Recreation Assistant, and Mike Mullins, Recreation Manager/Volunteer Coordinator, both from GWArc, at Chef Reva's cooking class this month

"Thanks to Chef Reva and her knowledge of healthy foods along with her warm personality, we all look forward to our Healthy Cooking Class each month!!  How she gets us to prepare all these delicious foods in such a timely and patient manner always AMAZES me!  Thank you for teaching all of us Chef Reva!!" ~ Renee
Middle School Healthy Kids Summer Program
We're back cooking and gardening with the Waltham Public School special education summer program. This is our third summer working with middle school students to grow and harvest vegetables and herbs in the school garden and prepare healthy snacks together. It's a great way to get kids excited about trying new foods and learning about plants and how they grow. This summer the program moved to the Northeast Elementary School where we are able to enjoy the fabulous school garden maintained by teachers and volunteers. Check out some photos from the program here. Thank you to the Jones Partnership Fund for generous support of this program!
Outreach Market Food Demos
We're very excited to be at the Outreach Market this summer with support from the MA Smart Growth Alliance! We'll be doing a series of free tastings using produce from the Waltham Fields Community Farm. The Outreach Market is held on Tuesday evenings in the summer and fall from 4:00-6:30PM at the corner of Cherry and Crescent Streets. This market is a great way for low income residents to purchase fresh local produce from the Waltham Fields Farm at a reduced cost. Learn more about this program  here
