CONGRATS, LOCAL CHAPTER!!
Northeast Indiana Association of Health Underwriters recently received the Pacesetter Award and recognized with the Overall Achievement in Membership Award at the National Association of Health Underwriters' (NAHU) 86th Annual Convention and Exhibition in Albuquerque, NM.

Northeast IN AHU was recognized for the Pacesetter Award. The criteria for receiving this award includes attendance at national and regional meetings, chapter management, hosting local meetings and events, communications, membership activities and growth, public service projects, media relations efforts, and continuing education. The Overall Achievement in Membership award was won for obtaining and maintaining the highest percentage of membership in NAHU among all small local chapters throughout the country this past calendar year.

"The leadership of NAHU members has a far-reaching impact on providing for the healthcare needs of individuals, families and business in their communities. We are grateful for Northeast IN AHU hard work and recognize them with this well-deserved award," said NAHU CEO Janet Trautwein.
President's Message
Happy 4th of July!!  I hope you all had the opportunity to celebrate what this holiday is all about - God Bless America and all those who fight to keep this country Great!

First of all, I want to thank the 2015-2016 Board for all of their hard work.  We accomplished a lot and couldn't have done it without each one of them.  We have some new faces coming on board so that means we say good bye to Julie Eley, Linda Parish, Crystal Michel and Rita Musser.  Thank you Ladies!!!

Stepping up to a board position for the first time:  Ava Lillmars, Ed Judkins, Dawn Fair, and Sue Jones.  Returning leaders include:  Bill Hartman, Jeff Fabini, Cindy Trahin, Denny Wright, Amber Frey, Sabine Barrett, Jessica Clayton, Justin Finton.

Our chapter returned from the NAHU convention a Winner!  Sabine Barrett with an assist from Rita Musser, submitted another award winning Pace Setter Application - this award is given to the top chapters who demonstrate outstanding chapter management, membership growth & retention, HUPAC support, professional development, etc...  Northeast IN AHU is a great example of a team working together for a common goal - our members!

In addition, Northeast IN AHU won the National Overall Small Chapter in Membership - outstanding growth and retention efforts. I'm so proud of Justin Finton and Linda Parish for keeping the focus on our members.  With their efforts and those of our team who recruited and sponsored new members - thank you!  Let's keep the momentum going this coming year.  Congratulations NEIAHU!!

The new board is busy setting the course for next year's calendar.  Our board retreat including both leadership training and strategic planning will take place July 13th at Lucky's Terrapin Grill - all are welcome.

NAHU is the only broker association approved to deliver your plan year 2016 training and has been conditionally approved to provide the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Federally Facilitated Marketplace (FFM) agent/broker training for plan year 2017. 
 
In preparation of the 2017 plan year training, CMS has announced dates for REGTAP webinar training. These webinars are intended to assist you in completing the 2017 training and registering with CMS.

Interested in what the NAHU HUPAC team does for you?  Below is a summary of HUPAC's activities in DC over the last few weeks.  

John Greene, NAHU VP of Congressional Affairs
   Meetings -
  • Rep. Pat Tiberi (OH-12) and Michael Bugess (TX-26) - topics discussed include Republican proposal to modernize tax treatment of the employer exclusion.  
  • Rep. Bob Dold (IL-10) - COBRA
  • Rep. Dan Donovan (NY-11) and Patrick McHenry, Deputy Whip - introduction - he earned the seat late and in a special election.  
  • Rep. Bruce Poliquin (ME-02) and Patrick McHenry, Deputy Whip - completely focused on jobs - talked of the aftermath of the Democratic sit-in.
  • Rep. Ryan Costello (PA-06) - one-on-one with Ryan and his Chief of Staff - agreed to speak at Philadelphia Annual Conference in October.  Other topics include employer exclusion (he sides with NAHU) and MLR and employer reporting.
  • Rep. Greg Walden (OR-02) - employer exclusion discussed, encouraged members to weigh in on the issue.

   Meetings - 

  • Rep. Linda Sanches (CA-39) - member of Ways and Means committee, helped remove small group deductible cap.  Discussed employer exclusion and her race for Vice Chair of the Democratic Caucus.
  • Rep. Mark Pocan (WI-2) - attended a reception that thanked Congressman Pocan for his efforts on fiduciary rule.  
  • Rep. Yvette Clarke (NY-9) - attened a lunch hosted by Rep. Clarke.

   Meetings - 
  • Rep. Rob Woodall (GA-07) - attended a luncheon where Rep. Woodall was thanked for his co-sponsorship on the MLR.  
  • Rep. Diane Black (TN-06) - attended a dinner hosted by Rep. Black - she was thanked for her support on the employer reporting bill.
  • Rep. Mike Coffman (CO-06) - thanked him for his support on MLR bill, and Rep. Coffman expressed interest in supporting NAHU's employer reporting bill.
