From the Director

The General Assembly approved the FY2018 operating budget on Sunday, July 2. While the Delaware Division of the Arts received a $70,000 reduction in funding for grants, this represents less of a decrease than some proposals that were considered during a challenging budgeting process. The Delaware Arts Alliance (DAA) continues to speak up on behalf of the arts and the role they play in enriching lives through education, downtown development, employment, and producing a positive return on investment. Learn how you can join the DAA, as they turn their focus to federal funding for the National Endowment for the Arts. Learn more

Divisions Upon a Ground

digital photograph, 20” x 30”

Divisions Upon a Ground, an exhibition of photography by Elisabeth Bard, will be on view in the Mezzanine Gallery from July 7-28, 2017. The title, inspired by Renaissance music, refers to elaborations and enrichments on a simple theme.

In this body of work, Bard uses a technique that involves long exposures and movement to achieve flowing, ephemeral landscape images. She likens the process to painting with light on a sensor where rhythmic and dancing textures are created by the camera’s motion and long exposure. Bard sets up the composition in the camera on location and continues the “painting” in the development phase. Her goal is to capture images that provide the viewer an impression of time and space.
Plan your visit

The Mezzanine Gallery, open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., is located in the
Carvel State Office Building, 820 N. French Street, Wilmington.
