July 2017
The 2017 Hollywood Build attracted more than 400 volunteers to Culver City for a two-day build event. The Entertainment Industry Build took place on Friday, June 9 and led into the 13th annual Power Women, Power Tools® on Saturday, June 10. Celebrities, entertainment industry executives, government representatives, corporate executives and individuals from faith-based organizations and community groups worked alongside future homebuyers and current homeowners to frame walls for 10 new homes being built in Culver City.
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) was thrilled that Lowe's was once again this year's title sponsor. Over 40 Lowe's associates joined us over the weekend illustrating the  company's commitment to raising awareness of the critical need for affordable housing and neighborhood revitalization in Los Angeles.

Volunteers were excited to be building in Culver City and the hands-on building experience left a lasting impact. "For Lowe's it is so meaningful to help families on their path to homeownership," said Veronica January, Market Director for Lowe's.

Thank you to everyone who joined and supported the event including: Abrams Artists Agency, IMAX Corporation, the Lelia Fund, Paradigm Talent Agency, The Queen Mary, Tarte Cosmetics and Warner Brothers Records. To view more photos from the 2017 Hollywood Build click  HERE

In addition to being one of Habitat LA's most popular events of the year, the Hollywood Build is also an integral part of our Building a Greater Los Angeles campaign. To learn more click  HERE

Help Habitat LA Win $100,000!
We are excited to be taking part in the Macy's Shop For A Cause Charity Challenge, a friendly fundraising competition on CrowdRise. Now through August 9, Habitat LA is competing with charities from across the country to raise the most money online. We're asking that you give as much as you can so that we can take home the $100,000 grand prize!  An additional $100,000 is up for grabs by winning weekly bonus challenges offered throughout the competition.

Donations of $5 or more will score you a 25 percent off savings pass at Macy's. You may also support the campaign by joining our team as a fundraiser and reaching out to your network of supporters so that we can make a greater impact together.

Board of Directors Annual Retreat
Habitat LA's Board of Directors met for their annual retreat on Saturday, July 15. The Board is comprised of a dedicated group of individuals representing a variety of industries. We are excited to have several returning Board Members to help keep the momentum of our Building a Greater Los Angeles campaign going and growing. We also welcomed several new members including executives from Faithful Central Bible Church, Hollywood Sierra Kitchens, Ringstar Sports, Thrivent Financial,  Union Bank and Wells Fargo.

Congratulations to our Montebello Families!
Four families have a lot to celebrate this summer after receiving the keys to their new homes during a dedication ceremony on June 28. The four home development is the first of its kind in Montebello and was built through a partnership between Habitat LA, the City of Montebello and Partnership Housing. Bank of America, the Habitat LA Catholic Coalition and Grifols were also enthusiastic and generous supporters of this new neighborhood.

The Duarte, Jefferson, Limon and Ramos families will be moving into their three bedroom/two bathroom homes and will pay back an affordable mortgage. Their path to homeownership has included contributing 500 hours of sweat equity building their homes and other Habitat LA homes, as well as completing classes through Habitat LA's Family Investment Program. View more photos from the celebration here.
ReStore Donor Highlight
The Habitat LA ReStores recently added to their inventory of unique treasures with generous donations from Ethan Allen and ABC Studios. Proceeds from the sale of these products will be used to help families achieve strength, stability and self-reliance through homeownership.

ABC Studios filled multiple ReStore trucks with household goods and materials from the sets of The Catch, Criminal Minds:Beyond Borders and The Real O'Neals. ReStore customers have the opportunity to give these pieces an encore performance in their homes!

Habitat LA's two ReStores are located in Bellflower and Torrance. They are open daily from 8:30am - 7:30pm.

LCDQ LEGENDS 2017 Benefits Habitat LA
LEGENDS is an annual celebration of design in the La Cienega Design Quarter that brings together thousands of VIPs and tastemakers from the worlds of interior design, decor, art, fashion and architecture. Since 2012, LCDQ has designated Habitat LA as its non-profit partner because of a shared interest and passionate belief that home should be a place of peace and comfort.

Each year, Habitat LA receives a percentage of ticket sales from LEGENDS which has resulted in an investment of more than $150,000 by LCDQ in Habitat LA's work  Building a Greater Los Angeles.

In addition to proceeds from ticket sales, LCDQ member Dragonette LTD, in partnership with Doug and Gene Meyer, also hosted an in-store VIP event and online campaign where each guest donated $500 to Habitat LA and in return received an original piece of art from designers and artists such as Nate Berkus, Amy Sedaris, Mary McDonald, Lee Ledbetter, Trina Turk, Mark Badgley, James Mischka and Cynthia Rowley. The identity of the designer/artist was unveiled only after the donor acquired the piece and remaining works were sold to the public online and in-store for $200.

Habitat LA's ongoing partnership with LCDQ has been invaluable in raising much needed funds and building enthusiasm within the design community about our mission to end substandard housing here in Los Angeles.

President Trump's recently proposed FY18 budget completely eliminates funding for programs Habitat for Humanity depends on nationally to fulfill our mission. We need your help to let Congress know this budget cannot pass.

Here in LA we use the Home Investment Partnership Program (HOME), the US Department of Housing and Urban Development's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and depend heavily on AmeriCorps, a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service. The proposed cuts also include YouthBuild, a nationally recognized leadership development and job training program and an important component of our construction program in Los Angeles.

These are the federal issues of highest priority right now. Contact your congressperson and senators that represent your area and let them know these proposed cuts hurt us all. SIGN: Our petition and let your voice be heard: CLICK HERE

We are looking forward to our 2017 Los Angeles Builders Ball® to be held Thursday, September 28 at the historic Beverly Hilton Hotel. Habitat LA will honor Morley Builders as The Builder of the Year, hockey hall of famer and Los Angeles Kings President Luc Robitaille with The Foundation Builder award and "Sugar" Ray Leonard with The Dream Builder award.

Each honoree has made a transformative impact on the landscape of Los Angeles and we invite you to share in our work Building a Greater Los Angeles.

Sponsorship opportunities and tickets are available for this annual sell-out event on our website here
