The Vermont Technology Alliance is partnering with vtTA member Gallagher, Flynn & Company to support participation by vtTA members in the Gallagher Flynn Salary Survey
for 2018-2019.   
This on-line survey provides information for participating Vermont and New Hampshire businesses and organizations on the competitive salary ranges of more than 150 positions, including 20 tech-specific positions and many other jobs found in technology-driven businesses.  
All vtTA members receive 50% off of the survey price during the promotional enrollment period through August. After September 15, the cost for the survey will increase, but it will still be available at a 50% discount for vtTA members. Read more here .

The Attorney General and the Department of Public Service host a public meeting to consider legislative proposals to protect the privacy of Vermonters, including the recently passed data broker bill and laws or regulations to encourage the growth of privacy-oriented technology companies in Vermont.

Report: Vermont ranked as best place to live in America
(July 12, 2018 - MyNBC5)
A new CNBC report ranks Vermont as the best place to live in America. Hawaii and Minnesota were ranked second and third.
The business channel used factors like affordable housing, education quality, cost of living, healthcare quality, job opportunities and environment to come up with the state rankings. CNBC used data points to measure quality of life across the country. That included crime rates, tourism, healthcare and inclusiveness written into state laws.

Vermont's workforce Woes a Drag on National Business Indexes  
(July 13, 2018 - VTDigger)

Some Vermonters cheered on social media this week after CNBC put out a list placing the Green Mountain State at the top of its quality of life ranking. But for those trying to do business in the state, the picture painted by recent state rankings by CNBC and WalletHub isn't so rosy. Though Vermont fared better in the CNBC survey, there was one area of strong agreement between the two: it's a tough place to get employees and financing.

Logic Supply Unveils Four Edge Hardware Offerings

Global industrial computer manufacturer Logic Supply of South Burlington has introduced four new lines of Internet of Things (IoT) Edge Hardware designed for use in challenging computing environments. Edge devices control data flow at the boundary between two networks. Logic Supply's Edge hardware options include ultra-small fanless IoT Gateway systems, Deep Learning PCs, and Edge Servers.

Stored Energy Helped GMP Save $500K During Heatwave  
(July 12, 2018 - Vermont Business Magazine/Press Release)
Green Mountain Power's network of Tesla Powerwall batteries in customers' homes, and larger community storage with solar installations, helped GMP cut carbon and costs for customers during the recent heat wave. GMP leveraged stored energy to accomplish the equivalent of taking 5,000 homes off the grid, creating savings for customers that could reach $500,000.

NPI Announces John Burton's Retirement; Marks 30th Anniversary

NPI Technology Management announced that John Burton, cofounder and president of NPI, will retire in 2018, remaining with NPI in an advisory role. NPI celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2018, and to mark the occasion has provided each employee 30 hours of paid time to work on pro-bono projects with some of the 30+ non-profits that have received NPI donations in the past. "It's fitting that we honor John and our anniversary in this way, said Eric Hart, NPI's CEO, "as John and NPI have always actively supported the communities in which we work."

Vermont Passes Landmark Blockchain Legislation 
(June 21, 2018 - Gravel & Shea)
Vermont Governor Phil Scott signed S.269, An Act Related to Blockchain Business Development on May 30. This new law further solidifies Vermont's position as a tech innovation leader by implementing initiatives aimed at supporting blockchain technology within the State.

Vermont Technology Alliance member Gravel & Shea was part of the Vermont Bar Association committee that helped bring this bill to life. The law creates two completely new types of business entities: a blockchain-based limited liability company and a personal information protection company. These additions to Vermont's business laws create assurances for both businesses and consumers.

Vermont's $10,000 Remote Worker Incentive Draws Unusual Response 
(July 6, 2018 - Burlington Free Press)
The messages poured in from everywhere - Florida, Michigan, Massachusetts. From the kind of people, presumably, that Vermont wants to attract with the state's incentive to lure remote workers by reimbursing moving and work-related costs up to $10,000

The Agency of Commerce and Community Development has received about 1,800 inquiries about the program, including about 500 international messages. The agency has yet to design the program, which is set to begin in January 2019.

Revision: NH expansion Will Benefit Vermont

Revision Military is bullish on its future and its Vermont operation. The maker of ballistic helmets and eyewear for the military and law enforcement recently announced it was expanding its operations, opening its US headquarters in Portsmouth, NH. Greg Maguire, senior director, government and legal affairs, said expanding to the Pease International Tradeport is part of the company's overall growth strategy. Vermont remains the company's operational headquarters for a variety of functions including finance, customer service, marketing, engineering, supply chain, and compliance.

Like many other employers around the state, Maguire said given the labor shortage it is somewhat more difficult to fill positions. Revision has 40 positions open in Vermont.

Math Institute Gets a Major Gift and a New Name  
(July 5, 2018 - Vermont Business Magazine)
Boosted by its largest single donation ever, the Governor's Institutes of Vermont has established an endowment for its mathematics program and renamed it after the program's founders. The $250,000 grant is designed to enhance offerings and provide scholarship aid at the newly named Kenneth I. Gross and Anthony Trono Governor's Institute on Mathematical Sciences. The former Institute of Mathematics is one of 13 separate institutes that provide Vermont teenagers with accelerated learning residencies on college campuses for programs ranging from the arts to engineering.

Gallagher Flynn Salary Survey Offer for Vermont Technology Alliance Members
The Vermont Technology Alliance is partnering with vtTA member Gallagher, Flynn & Company to support participation by vtTA members in the Gallagher Flynn Salary Survey for 2018-2019.   
The Gallagher Flynn Salary Survey is a unique, on-line survey providing information for participating Vermont and New Hampshire businesses and non-profit organizations on the competitive salary ranges of more than 150 positions, including 20 tech-specific positions and many other jobs found in technology-driven businesses.  
All vtTA members who join the survey during the promotional enrollment period through August will receive a 50% discount off of the current standard prices: $90 for organizations with revenues or budgets less than $5 million; and $180 for organizations with revenues or budgets greater than $5 million.
After September 15, the cost for the survey will increase, but it will still be available at a 50% discount for vtTA members.

Davis & Hodgdon's Vermont Business Economic Survey Now Open
Davis & Hodgdon Associates CPAs and the Vermont Chamber of Commerce invite participation in their semi-annual survey related to the economy and local businesses. The survey is an effort to better understand Vermont small- to medium-sized business owners' perception of the state's business climate. The survey will remain open until Tuesday, July 24.  Results of the survey will be compared to results from the previous eight surveys and published and shared with all participants as well as local media in August 2018.
