Much more than a coach': Hundreds gather to remember 'Friday' Richards
Former athletes, coaches, colleagues and friends were moved to tears in the bleachers of Northcutt Stadium on Friday evening as they paid tribute to James "Friday" Richards, the man who influenced so many of them over his 64 years.
There wasn't a more fitting venue to commemorate the life of the longtime Marietta High coach than the field he stood on all those Friday nights - first in high school as the Blue Devils' star running back and later as the team's head coach.
Cobb County's Budget and our Future
Numbers and budgets are not everyone's "cup of tea," but if you live or do business in Cobb County, it's time to take a minute and study this issue.
At issue right now is the County Government part of your tax bill, not the school portion. Hopefully, you were able to attend one of the many Town Halls meeting conducted by Cobb Commission Chairman Mike Boyce.
So what's next?
There will be three Public Hearings on the proposed budget:
Tuesday, July 10th @ 9am
Tuesday, July 17th @ 6:30pm
Wednesday, July 25th @ 7pm
All three hearings will be held in the BOC Room on the second floor of 100 Cherokee St., Marietta. The July 10th and 25th hearings will be held as part of the BOC's regular monthly meetings.
It is important for Mableton and other South Cobb residents to show up and be counted at this meeting! We have different needs and maybe different opinions than other parts of the County. Help your elected officials - the County Commission - understand how to deal with this budget problem. Their decision will shape our future.

The women of Turner Chapel, along with those from neighboring churches, will deliver food baskets to families in the community. This will be a time of service to encourage and minister to our neighbors, responding to the mandate of Christ to feed His sheep.
*The women of Turner will showcase their creative talents and prepare decorative food baskets and deliver them to the church July 30th - August 12th.
*Baskets will be judged and the top three winners will be announced at our Serving Our Community Gathering on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 8:30 am.
*A continental breakfast will be served, we will pray and the ladies will deliver the food baskets to families in the community.
