NSC Survey Proves Americans' False Perceptions of Safety

Preventable Accidents, Including Falls, Top the List of Deaths
A recent National Safety Council (NSC) survey analyzed where Americans feel safest and what they perceive as the most life-threatening or dangerous situations. Incorrectly, 77 percent of Americans believe their home is the safest place, despite the fact that 75 percent of preventable incidents occur in the home. In their lifetime, a person has a one-in-24 chance of dying from an accident, like a fall, car crash, drowning, choking, a fire, but 80 percent of Americans said their biggest safety fear is homicide. A person only has a one-in-285 chance of dying from homicide, or less than a 1 percent chance. To read more about the findings, click here.
