Welcome to our new residents, fellows, faculty and staff. July marks the beginning of our new academic year. Together I know we can make fiscal year 2020 our best year ever. What would that mean? It would mean that our happiness and joy in doing our work, caring for our patients and advancing care through research and education is unsurpassed. As a department we will be working together to advance teamwork, decrease burn out, and promote a safe and supportive culture. So stay tuned and I hope to see all of you at the Department wide picnic August 10th!

Drs. Peahl & Dalton in JAMAOpen
In their new articles in JAMAOpen, Dr. Peahl and team looked at women in Optum who were opioid-naïve prior to pregnancy, and filled a prescription around the time of delivery.

In their cohort, 1-2% of women developed new persistent opioid use, especially those with larger prescriptions and those who received their prescription before admission. Rates of opioid prescribing and new persistent opioid use did decline over time.

Ob/Gyn Gratitude Initiative!
MHealthy recently released the “Be Kind, Be Well” campaign at University of Michigan, including a gratitude card template that encourages sharing thoughts of gratitude with others.

The Ob/Gyn DE&I Committee, in partnership with our MHealthy Team, believes sharing gratitude with those around us is a great way to help encourage our efforts in workplace civility. Share these gratitude cards with co-workers who went above and beyond to help you or even just made you smile!

Blank cards will be in Ob/Gyn spaces in VVH and UH South! Run out of cards? Stop by L4113 in UH South, Megan and Natalie will be happy to give you some!
