Confirmands June 2019
by Daewon Goldenbaum-Yang
After going through their Confirmation class sessions, our Confirmands presented their Statements of Faith before the Session on Tuesday, June 4, 2019. After their presentation, the Session voted yes to accept them into being a voting member of the congregation. They were then Confirmed before the congregation on Pentecost Sunday, June 9. Here are the Statements of Faith of the Confirmands.
I believe in the Scripture, God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. I believe that I am called to do the good works of the church and for my youth group. I try to do all things in God’s name and in faith.
I believe the Scripture calls me to do things in Christ’s name and do the good works. I believe the Scripture is the founding document and is the basis of my faith. Bible verses can provide comfort and healing when we need it most.
God lifts me on his wings when I am down and takes me in his wondrous wings to protect me. God is my father and my maker of heaven and Earth. Everything that is in the Earth is good and created by God the Father. I thank God for always brightening my day, shining in places I'm struggling, and being by my side if I need anything. I pray to God every day for blessing me with my family, friends, safety, and good health. His works are truly wonderful and joyous.
The first thought that comes to my mind when I think of Jesus Christ is that he died and suffered on the cross to save me from my sins. That is a brave action to take on and he did it selflessly. Jesus is my lamb of God. He is pure, perfect, and free of sin. And just like the lambs were sacrificed for sin, so would Christ be sacrificed. Jesus is my constant rock and always there for me when I need him to be.
The Holy Spirit is the presence of God. The Holy Spirit is present on Earth and in all living things. Just like God, the Holy Spirit is someone I can turn to if I need help. The Holy Spirit is your conscious, the little voice in your head telling you what’s wrong from right.
The church is a place where you can reflect on your life and pray with God. The individual time with God that you are seeking can be presented in the church. But also, the church is the place to come together with other believers.
As part of a church, I am called to serve in God’s name and serve others. When I do that, I am showing a good example of what Christians should do. Within the church, I want to be a leader and share God’s love with others. Just like at the end of a church service we are called to “Go in God’s Name!”
In confirmation class these past 10 weeks we have looked at The Holy Triune my beliefs have been greatly enhanced and my faith statement is now what I believe.
God is my Father. I believe He sent Jesus down from heaven to protect us. I believe He sent the prophets to guide us. I believe He created us all in his image. I believe that He will always love and forgive us if we do more right than wrong and remain faithful to Him.
Jesus is my rock and redeemer. He teaches us and heals us. I believe that He died on the cross for us to forgive our sins. Because He died on the cross for us our sins will always be forgiven of we love and forgive and pray.
I believe the Holy Spirit is in your heart. The Holy Spirit is the part of the Holy Triune that your parents tell you is in your heart when they say God is with you. The Holy Spirit lives on Earth. The Holy Spirit teaches us and advocates for us. It is always with us like the wind.
I believe the Church is called to spread the word of God. We must be welcome and opening. We must lend our services to people in need. We must help everyone for that is what God intended.
Elizabeth "Betsy" Lewis
Who is god to me?
I have faith in God. I believe God does three things for me. He is my friend, he is someone who is always there for me and he’s my father. For me God is someone I can talk to. When I’m feeling stressed or overwhelmed I turn to god and ask him for guidance. I believe that God knows what’s best for us and that everything happens for a reason. He takes care of us in times of need and watches over us. He gives me advice and points me in the right direction when I need help. I know that god will always be there for me.
Who is Jesus to me?
Jesus is my savior and my rock. If it wasn't for God’s sacrifice of his son we would have not been forgiven and I would not be the same person I am without Jesus. Jesus has taught me to treat my neighbor as I want to be treated, and love everyone unconditionally. He taught me to not judge but accept and love people for who they are.
Who is the Holy Spirit to me?
The Holy Spirit to me is God in spirit form who is always beside me, watching over me, and making sure I am safe. I feel like the holy spirit guides me on my path of life and shows me what is right and what is wrong. I always feel as if the Holy Spirit is by my side following, protecting me, and telling me right from wrong.
What is the church and what is it called to do?
The church is a place for me to connect with God. For people to hear and listen to God’s word it’s comforting. It’s comforting knowing that someone is always looking out for you and has a plan for you. I feel like the church is called to make a community of people believing and worshiping God to maybe strengthen their faith, help themselves through a hard time, or to just talk to God and thank him for everything he has given us. Its a community of people who you grow up with and love and care for you and just also happen to share the same beliefs as you which brings you closer together.
What am I called to do?
I believe I am called to spread God's word, love, and his light with the world. I think everyone
should spread God’s word and treat people as Jesus did with unconditional love and
compassion. I am called to share my faith with others.
God the father to me is my rock. He is my rock because he stays strong for me when I need him the most. God the father is my shepherd. He is my shepherd because he guides my life as a shepherd guides his sheep.
Jesus to me is Gods son. God sent him here to teach his ways and die for our sins. Jesus gave himself for us. He gave his body and blood for us.
The holy spirit to me is the part of god that is always with us. It is the part of God that leads us. The holy spirit is a dove. A dove that always watches over us.
The church is the house of God. The church is a place to pray and worship our father. The church is the people of God. The church holds the rules of God.
The church and I are called to worship God. We are called to pray. I am called to follow Gods commandments. I am called to be a child and follower of God.
Who is God to me? God to me is the creator. I believe that he created the earth and all the animals and plants in it. God is also the father of God. He blessed Mary with Jesus to raise as her own so in my mind God and Joseph are both the fathers of Jesus. I believe that he is part of the holy trinity. The parts of the holy trinity are Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit. God is part of the Holy Trinity because he made the earth and is the father to Jesus.
Who is Jesus to me? Jesus to me is the savior. He is the savior because he carried the cross and saved us from our sins by being crucified. Jesus is the son of Mary. Jesus was born to the Virgin Mary. Mary took care of Jesus for a big part of his life. She listened to him and knew he was a gift from God. Jesus is also a part of the Holy Trinity. He is part of the Holy Trinity because he is a gift from God and spoke the word of the lord.
Who is the Holy Spirit to me? The Holy Spirit was sent down by God after Jesus died to continue his teachings. The Holy Spirit can be seen as the wind or doves. The Holy Spirit is also part of the Holy Trinity. The Holy Spirit helps remind people of Jesus teachings.
What is the Church and what is the Church called to do? The Church is a place where people are called to worship the Lord and Jesus. The Church is also a place where we learn about the history of Christianity and how it has developed over the years. The Church calls people with God given gifts to join with other people with different God given gifts to work together to help people around the world.
What am I called to do? I am called to spread the word of the lord. I am called to be kind to people always. I also feel that God blessed me with my gift of being able to handle animals, big or small, to help those with disabilities or are in poverty to deal with problems in school or at home. I am blessed to have a family that has given me the opportunities to find my gift and possibly sharing my gift with others.
God the Father is the Creator. He created the heavens and earth and everything in it. God is my shepherd and he guides me on the right path. When I need Him I know he is always there for me. He comforts me when I'm scared or lonely.
Jesus is my savior. He was willing to sacrifice his life for me. Jesus gives me strength when I am weak. Because Jesus wants to be with me, I feel that he is beside me while I am praying to God.
The Holy Spirit is the spirit of God. The Spirit makes the scriptures come alive. Because of the Holy Spirit, the Bible will always have something new to teach me about living in God's kingdom. The Holy Spirit surprises me by showing me God in places I don't expect to find God.
The church is not a building. The church is a group of people who come together to serve others and to worship. The Bible tells us that we are to worship together.
I am called to worship God just as the church is called to worship God.
I am called to serve others just as the church is called to serve others.
Together we bring about God's kingdom on earth by serving those in need. By serving together, by worshiping together, by enjoying each other's company, members of the church practice the friendship of God's kingdom.
God means different things to everybody. This past Monday morning I woke up early to go on a surfing trip to Cape Lookout. As we got out on to the ocean I saw the sun rising in front of me and birds flying all around me, it was beautiful. I thought to myself that god had blessed that day. I really knew that was true when I walked across the island to see a perfect wave breaking and two of my good friends waving at me. God is a presence that is always with you, he helps you make the right decisions to make positive choices for your future.
Who is Jesus to me? I saw a man on the side of the road one day with a sign that read, free work for food. Jesus died for us on the cross so that we may be good Samaritans and help the less fortunate. We should strive to be a modern day Jesus, to be good people and give back more than we take.
The Holy Spirit is like the wind that guides us through life. It keeps us in check when we’re drifting away from our path. It stays with us, as does God and Jesus, to help us make the right choices.
All three of these things comprise the church. The church isn’t a building though, it’s a community of people that can all worship god. The community is called to do the bidding of God and be faithful. We’re called to help others and worship when and wherever we can.
As a member of the church, I am a member of the community. I am called to be good and not disobey God. I am called to be like Jesus and put others before myself. I am called to follow the path the Holy Spirit is guiding me on and not drift away from the church or from God. God is all around us, he’s in the church, the sunrise, the sunset, the perfect wave, your best friends, your family, and everything you do. God is in all of our lives, no matter where you are.
