COMMUNITY CORNER
DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
GVCO and the “Other Things” we do

If you have been on GVCO’s social media during the past month, then you noticed we have been posting a #DoYouKnowGVCO series. GVCO has always been known for its quality youth sports programming, but this social media series is highlighting many of the wonderful other things that the organization has done for the community. As a community center we have partnered with many groups and organizations, as well as local businesses, providing much needed service and events across a broad representation of the entire region.

As GVCO moves towards its 20 th year of operation, the coming year we will see a number of new “non-sports” programs evolve. Through several new partnerships GVCO will be: holding a Blood Drive in association with the American Red Cross at the GVBL Center this August; this fall GVCO will partner with Cradles to Crayons for a month long drive to assist less fortunate children in need of daily essentials; GVCO will also be working with Steps4Hope this fall to offer scholarship funding for individuals who are struggling with substance use.

The power of the collective Great Valley community has always amazed me. When the community comes together, volunteers and “gives back”, we can be an incredible resource in many, many ways. The community’s continued support of GVCO and its programming allows the community organization to be the vehicle to help organize and administer these offerings through all of these wonderful partnerships.

KC Curran & Josh Bacon

" I consider myself very lucky to have grown up with a program like GVBL & a place like GVCO ("the center.") I went from playing, to reffing, to camp counselor, to "running" the summer league with the other GVBL "OG" Dana Walsh. I did not fully appreciate it all at the time, but I see now how much I got out of it (girls I am still friends with to this day, summer jobs, mentors, coaching experience, etc). I joke about how even though I was there when it all started, no one even knows who I am when I walk in the center anymore (unless I tell them I'm Tom Curran's daughter). While it's depressing because it makes me feel old, it shows how big the community has become. I can't wait to continue to watch it grow. " - KC

KC Curran is one of the original girls that began playing in what has become GVBL & GVCO. KC has a very unique connection to GVCO because of her childhood & her appreciation & support of the organization that has grown over time. She has been married for a little over a year to her husband, Josh Bacon. The newlyweds currently live in Phoenixville with their pitbull, Semi. KC is a Physical Therapist Assistant at Good Shepherd Penn Partners in Radnor & Josh owns his own real estate company, flipping properties throughout southeastern PA. The couple is very excited about the variety of activities that will be available in the new community center. " There will be something for everyone there which is what a true "community" center should be," said KC.

"The last GVCO fundraiser I went to, someone asked my husband and I who our kids were in the league. I couldn't help but laugh out loud. I had to politely tell them, "We don't have kids in the league, I'm Tom Curran's daughter. I played in the first year of GVBL." While at the time this caught me off guard, I realized how special that question really was. This community organization has been around long enough that the "original class" of GVBL is now old enough to have kids of our own playing in this league. I can't wait for our future kids to play in every league available, and be involved in every opportunity provided." While KC & Josh don't have their own children playing at GVBL yet, many other children will enjoy playing on "Supreme Court" this year at the GVBL Center since the couple purchased the naming rights to the small court during the live auction at the GVCO/GVBL Annual Fundraiser.
