JULY 2019

FOSTERING PROGRAM

We know that summer is a busy time for all of us.  Days are longer and busier.  However, summer is also a time when dogs are needing rescue more than ever.  The days are HOT!
Dogs are being kept outside or running loose and as AGA has these dogs surrendered to us,
we need to ensure that we can transition these dogs to forever homes.  Without fosters stepping up to take these dogs in - these dogs will go to boarding and wait for forever homes.  It is hard to get to know a dog in boarding.  These dogs need families to love them and
nurture them, and tell them to not be scared and that they are safe and all is good.

We are seeing a big increase in our intake right now!  WE NEED FOSTERS!

Fostering is not an easy job - actually one would say it is a very hard job.  It takes patience
to calm a scared and upset orphan.  It takes time to teach an orphan who has never been
inside that we don't eat that, and we don't grab those, and we certainly don't potty there!
It takes love to whisper "you're okay, you're safe, or you're a good boy" to a sad and
confused face.  Yet, many of you have at one time or another stepped up to the challenge
and have taken these orphans in and incorporated them into your families, your schedules
and your lives.  And we, as the foster team, can not thank you ENOUGH!

Realizing that lives change and situations change, we would love to hear from those of you
who have taken time off or who have not fostered in a while.  Whether it has been just
months since you fostered or even years, we have an orphan that could use your love!
Or maybe you have never fostered before and now think that it may be right for you.

If your schedule is busy and you are not sure you have time for an orphan - We can work
with you!  If you can foster for a week, then have to go on vacation - or have incoming
relatives - we can board your orphan or find short term.  If you can't make it to the vet
to pick up your orphan but want to foster, we will bring the orphan to you!  If you can't
make adoption day with your orphan, we will find someone who can!  The foster team would
love to hear from you and explain the fostering process or refresh it for those fosters
who have not fostered in a while.

We are also in need of fosters who are interested in becoming educated and trained on
working with our more challenging dogs.  These fosters would meet Angie at U.S. Canine
and have sessions with experienced trainers. These fosters would have a network of
support as they learn dog psychology.  We have several dogs that have behavioral problems
but have potential of being great dogs!  This would be a great learning experience for
you and our orphans!

If you would like more information on fostering, our foster team would love to talk to
you and explain our program.  Please email us for more info.

Thank you so much!

ORPHAN OF THE MONTH

Elliott

Hi there!  My name is Elliott and I'm a 7 year old Great Pyrenees with a little bit of
Golden Retriever in me.  I was born and grew up on a big farm, like many Great Pyrenees do,
with several other dogs.  We lived outside mostly and usually ate garbage that the
person who lived there threw away; yuck that was bad.  Sometimes we had no food.
We had no training or attention and I never learned anything while I was there.
So, I go by instincts.
