STITCH OF THE MONTH

Corduroy Stitch
(in varying widths)
In the blow-up above of the background of a recently finished "Downward Dog" acrylic tray,
the background is stitched in varying widths of diagonal long stitches worked horizontally. Notice
how some rows are over two and
the others over three. The stitcher
randomly changed the
direction
of the stitch. This stitch
can
be worked horizontally
or
vertically,
in one color or in complimentary/contrasting colors
and/or in a mixture of fibers to create the desired affect. When used as a background stitch it
works up quickly (which we all love). Working on stretchers
bars is recommended for this
type of long stitch. It
will lay
flatter and keep the
canvas
from pulling out of shape.
