News for alumni & friends
July 2019
As always at Tauber, it's been an invigorating summer. I met with student teams, faculty advisors, and project champions at Boeing, DTE Energy, General Motors, and Stanley Black & Decker, and am eager to hear their final presentations at the SPOTLIGHT! Team Project Showcase on September 13.
Ross MBA orientation is next week! We are excited to greet the class of 2021. We hope all new Tauber MBA students - and also any incoming Tauber Engineers who are in Ann Arbor - will join us for a Tauber welcome reception on August 5.

Tauber student teams are busy collecting data, meeting with stakeholders, finalizing their recommendations, and compiling their team project results. Don't miss their presentations at the 2019 SPOTLIGHT! Team Project Showcase and Scholarship Competition, September 13 at the Ann Arbor Sheraton.
Seattle area alumni make an impact

Tauber Institute benefactor Joel Tauber recently visited Seattle to meet with Tauber alumni who are influencing operations in an array of industries. Alumni gatherings included representatives from Amazon, Avanade, Boeing, Blue Origin, Fortive, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Meddle, Microsoft, Retail Velocity, Shape Tech Group, Zillow, and Zirconia.

" We got married in May and traded a big party for a long trip. We made this decision to get to know new cultures, to meet new people, and to bring more experiences to the MBA."

Our incoming class of MBA and Engineering graduate students bring a wide breadth of experience to the Tauber Institute. We asked a few new students to tell us what they have been doing this summer to prepare for Tauber (both personally and professionally), what they are most looking forward to in the Fall, and what they would like the Tauber community to know about them.

Tauber Solutions:
General Motors Manufacturing Data Integration Strategy

The Challenge:
Keeping General Motors' production lines perpetually running requires plant workers to be agile when responding to machine errors. However, data that is pertinent to machine maintenance is often spread throughout different systems, slowing repair time. The Tauber team was tasked with developing a digital platform that consolidates key data for rapid repairs, and in turn, increases overall throughput.
The Solution:
The Tauber team's recommendations specified how tablets can be optimally integrated into maintenance processes and provided a structured framework for that can be applied at any GM plant. The team's mobile solution would create a flow of data previously unseen in GM's manufacturing operations, achieving immediate and long-term benefits for an array of stakeholders throughout the organization. If implemented throughout all manufacturing in GM North America, the team estimated the company would save over $90 million annually in increased labor and production efficiencies.
